Quiet Hollers Return

Louisville based Quiet Hollers have slowly begun to make a name for themselves on our website and out in the music world. It’s well deserved praise as the band continue to pump out hit after hit, like this one called “Funny Ways”. The band has always reminded me a bit of Grand Archives or the lighter side of Band of Horses and that comparison is confirmed here. Thinking you’ll enjoy the meandering feel, bright guitars and hushed vocals. Check it out.

Amen Breaks is out on July 7th. Pre-order on iTunes now.

Killer Rocker from Milk Music

Admittedly, I’ve been feeling the effects of the heat, holing up in my room jamming to some folk tunes for the summer.  But, that’s all about to change with this excellent Milk Music track I just got sent in the mail today.  This new jam is just a solid rocker from the Washington rockers, but it comes with the announcement that the group’s long time sold out Beyond Living EP is now up on iTunes, so it’s available to you all.  The group’s about to embark on a nice little jaunt, and then we expect them to have more music to bowl us over.

There was big news recently about Spotify bringing their all-you-can-eat music service to America hammering the tech sites and delighting music fans.  Now, this concept is nothing new to me as a long time subscriber and advocate of Microsoft’s Zune Pass.  It has however been a chore to evangelize the merits of renting your music catalog.  Let’s face it, there is a warm fuzzy around “owning” your music, isn’t there.  But let’s go over the Top 5 reasons why you subscribe to a music service, especially as there are now several great multi-platform services to choose from.

Radio Free OKC

Austin Town Hall recently made nice with our friends Radio Free OKC, a podcast/mix tape based out of Oklahoma. Radio Free will be taking a recommended song from Austin Town Hall each week and doing a special segment about our site. This is arguably one of our favorite podcasts around so we are pumped about this new partnership. Go to Radio Free OKC’s website to get this weeks episode featuring the song “Highways of Gold” by Jaguar Love straight from Austin Town Hall. You can also find and download all of Radio OKC’s podcasts for free from the itunes store.
