Welcome Strawberry Share No One Online

Wanted to get into something slightly heavy this morning, so I figured we’d start the day off with this burning ripper from new Oakland outfit Welcome Strawberry. The band have just announced their debut LP, and with Jorge Elbrecht mixing their brand of poppy shoegaze, I’m excited to see where this group head. Honestly, it makes sense that Jorge has his hands in this, as this definitely sounds like the natural evolution of where he was taking Violens; it also hints at a bit of that fun acid house, albeit with a much heavier hand in there. Their debut self-titled LP drops this September courtesy of Too Good to Be True and Cherub Dream.

Jorge Elbrecht Readies Here Lies

Jorge Elbrecht
has featured quite a bit on these pages, though most recently as a solo artist stepping out of the Violens past. But, one listen and you’ll see similar touchstones in the construction of this track; it relies upon heavily pulsing electronics as the central feature to the tune. Jorge’s vocals ride the wave of that pulse, joined throughout by a guest appearance from Tamaryn. I’m really enjoying the way Jorge is crafting these tunes, meaning that Here Lies will probably be a smash in my eyes; it drops on February 28th.

New Tune from Jorge Elbrecht

Jorge Elbrecht was one of the key cogs to the Violens machine, and since the band have gone on hiatus, he’s currently been working on various projects. Today I’m happy to share with you this new track that he’s just released, filled with some of the flourishes that fans of Violens will remember. It opens with sort of a 2001 Space Odyssey vibe, before percussive elements come in to layer the early moments. Then, an electronic line drops, then drapes of soaring vocals with perfect harmonies go for a ride atop the mix. No word on precisely when we’ll get more music, but we’ve been assured that Jorge has big news for 2018.

Give a Listen to Presentable Corpse

My first experience listening to the music of Jorge Elbrecht came way back in the early 00s when I was fortunate enough to discover Lansing-Dreiden through some friends that were way cooler than me. It led me to Violens, his next project, but I think perhaps the best work he’s done to date is coming via this Presentable Corpse track. It takes the best of all his work, somehow managing to get it all together into one atmospheric pop journey. I don’t think there are words for such a track, so I’ll just let it speak for itself. If you’re inclined, it’s being released on a super limited basis via Grey Market, the newest LA label.
