WUT Announce Mingling with Thorns

When your band’s resume features members of Knife Pleats and Tough Age (plus an appearance from Christina of Artsick), you already come to our ATH table with built in clout. WUT is the band, and they’re not messing around as they announce their new record, Mingling with Thorns for the masses; it’ll be out later Summer via HHBTM Records. Today, we offer up this rolling bit of jangling pop, and almost from the first falling vocal I was floored; the line “sea of green/empty screen/I’m waiting/Now I know has this beautiful voice that just drops the tone, sucker-punching you with charm…a feat they continue to utilize throughout. But, this track’s not about a singular moment or mere vocal treats; take a listen to the buoyant bop right at the 33 second mark, twisting the song with just the slightest wrinkle. Within the lyrical confines, you’ll find the band questioning the patriarchy and capitalism, reflecting and wondering where one finds their way in such antiquated systems. For now, the only way you need to go is towards the band’s site and pre-order a copy of Mingling with Thorns; it drops August 28th via HHBTM.

Tons of genres out there, but if you’ve been following our work, you know that I’m really partial to the indiepop scene. I scour the confines of the Internet for any and the best of the genre, and admittedly get tons of tips. So, I looked back through what had come out and wanted to throw a little bit your way…just another list of what I think was the best in indiepop in 2015. Still staying away from numbering. I’m an admitted fan of Rose Melberg and her work, so when we heard about a new project, Knife Pleats, I was really excited to hear what it had to offer. As expected, it’s every bit as glorious as we thought, and the full length is now available to pick up on your own. If you’re looking for something that’s just slightly hazy on the sound, but adheres to the delightful side of indiepop, then I think you’re going to want to pick up Hat Bark Beach. It’s available in the US via Lost Sound Tapes and Jigsaw Records.

Rose Melberg’s New Band = Knife Pleats

I think any fan of great indie rock the last several years has to agree that no matter what Rose Melberg touches, it’s going to be magic…in some way or another. The last project we had from her was Imaginary Pants, but now she’s got a new outfit up and running, Knife Pleats. And yes, as always, Melberg and her pals fulfill the promise, creating hook filled tunes that make you feel young…and ultimately smile. The foursome will release Hat Bark Beach on September 29th via Lost Sound Tapes…with the CD version coming out later via Jigsaw…both reliable options for great tunes.
