Always a Spot for Kool Keith

koolkeithI remember way back in the day, when my adoration for hip-hop had waned, there was Kool Keith…in particular, Dr. Octagon. Fast forward to today, and I’m pretty indifferent to most hip-hop, but something about KK has always fascinated me. Perhaps most of it revolves around the oddity that he takes on in his rap persona. He even proclaims the purpose of his new album, Feature Magnetic, is to reignite the weird…none of that boring, over-produced Kanye stuff. If you like your hip-hop weird, then have a listen to this new tune he just upped…with the LP to drop on September 16th.

The man who sometimes calls himself Black Elvis, or Kool Keith to some of you, is stopping into Austin for a special show on Saturday night at Mohawk.  Joining Doc Oc on stage is fellow lights out performer and big booty shaker Big Freedia.  For that ticket price, this is a must see for any fans of hip-hop and a good time.

FTC: Dr. Octagon

FTC_droctagonUsually we don’t do a lot of write-ups on hip-hop, but that’s mostly because we don’t know too much about it, but we do know about this guy.  Kool Keith has been all over the place for years, sometimes as KK, sometimes as Black Elvis, but his most prominent persona for me is Dr. Octagon.  His rhmyes are odd, and quite vulgar, but not in a “I just want to cuss a lot way,” more in a disturbed MC sort of way.  I used to listen to the first record, Dr. Octagonecolgyst (the best in my opinion), all the time in college.  For some reason, I just  felt like travleing down memory lane with this record today. Blue Flowers!
