Treeboy & Arc Announce New EP

If anything good came out of Covid lockdowns, it has to be the slew of new music artists created during their long time stuck at home. Leeds based Treeboy & Arc were one of those busy groups during quarantine, having managed to record an entire EP of new material. The new extended player, Life Preserver, includes four new tracks of material with this lead single, “Role Models”, streaming prior to the full August 6th EP release date. I love how the track pushes what we might consider post-punk tendencies but with a more restrained approach to give it a very Devo meets Idles feel. I think you’ll enjoy it.

Life Preserver will be available on cassette and for digital download on August 6th. Pre-orders are live now.

English Teacher Drop R&B Single

When you first press play on this English Teacher jam, you’re going to definitely here some likeness with recent pop acts like Dry Cleaning; the band employ the same sort of spoken word delivery coiled up in this anxiety ridden cavern of bobbing bass lines. Once you drop into that 1 minute mark, however, the song decides you’re in need of a good kick to the teeth; it rips through your speakers, shooting out distorted chords and rambunctious energy, like a train hurtling over a cliff…will we make it alive?! As calming as they being, the Leeds outfit are intent on destroying everything in their wake. Look for this tune as part of the Nice Swan Records Introduces Volume 1.

Eades Share Present in the Moment

Listening to Eades, it’s easy to hear why the band always hits home for us over here at ATH. You get some sharp jittering guitars, somewhere in between Wire and Parquet Courts, particularly utilizing that frantic nature to really push the song headfirst into listeners. What I do appreciate about this new single, accompanying the announcement of a new EP, is that they’re kind of pulling on some unexpected little twists, and actually, it feels like they’re trying to keep up with the punks while waxing nostalgically about 90s Britpop. You get this edge, but you also get this cool while trying to not be cool attitude, and you know what, I dig it. This track hops onto their Abstract Education EP, out on April 30th via Heist or Hit. **On a side not…do you think they intentionally had rhymed Eades with Leeds?**

Talk Boy Share Wrapped In Blue

It’s always a lovely day in Austin, TX when we are finally seeing the end of our four year reign of idiocracy in America. Though they may be from across the pond, Leeds based outfit Talkboy has shared the perfect tune for the day. Yes, “Wrapped in Blue”, seems like the perfect, upbeat, and fun tune to commemorate this joyous day. It’s sort of like an early Killers sound if they decided to throw in more elements of super bright indie pop. Enjoy and celebrate!

Talk Boy will release an EP entitled Wrapped in Blue, featuring this title track, on February 11th via Come Play With Me/LAB Records.

Nervous Twitch Drop Alright Lads Video

Feel like Nervous Twitch are taking me to task here, but their sound is so joyous that I don’t even mind that they seem to be mocking those rock show know-it-alls! Just listen, ask yourself if you know it all, then apologize and be better! As for the song, the band Leeds bunch just hammer away at this classic pop rock feel, somewhere between Elvis Costello and the Go-Gos, with hints of punk and classic girl-group pop swirling about your ears. It’s got just enough sugar to make you feel sweet, but an underlying bit of attitude (atop the band calling out those know-it-alls!) gives it just enough of an edge to make it a breezy jam you’ll want to spin at your next party! Give a listen! … Courtesy of Reckless Yes.

Eades Deliver Another Hit

Our pals in Leeds based band Eades have been hard at work this past year having released several singles and their impressive debut EP, Microcosmic Things. Though it’s been a creative and productive year for the group, they aren’t quite done yet with this new single called “Forgive my Mind” coming out today via Bam Bam Records. It is yet again a display of true slacker rock but with super tight instrumentation, interesting guitar leads, and the always steady rhythm section. If you don’t know about the band, you should check them out now.

Nervous Twitch Share Keeping Faith in Something Video

Been a minute since we’ve heard from Leeds outfit Nervous Twitch, but we’re getting word that the band will be releasing a new LP in early 2021…and we’ve got a sneak peak! The first single teases you with an off-kilter stomp and steady spoken vocals. Suddenly, those guitars shimmy into the picture, the drums move into a roll and things pick up pace so we’re all having a blast as we’re bopping along. They have this knack for offering sugary punk ditties that are undeniably fun, which, on a personal level, has me really excited for a new LP, which we’ll know more about soon…for now, enjoy this tune courtesy of Reckless Yes Records!

Eades Share I Want More

Eades really caught my attention earlier this year when they dropped their Microcosmic Things EP; it was chock full of songs with these nods to post-punk while still grasping onto current indie rock vibes. This brand new tune definitely reveals a bit more of the latter, and perhaps its all the better as the young band find their sound. I love the way the verses seem to really just kind of hang about in that casual manner, like they’re just relaxing in the sunshine, taking it all in. The chorus gives you an emphatic burst of guitar pop and shredding, especially when it moves off into that soloing territory for a calamitous end. Just another reason to keep an eye on this Leeds outfit.

Eades Share Vivid Dreams

Leeds outfit Eades are a few weeks away from the release of their debut EP, and with that, they’ve tossed out one final single to entice your ears. For me, I gravitated immediately to those sharp edged guitar chords; it’s that sort of angular cut that reminds you of bands like B Boys or Omni. But, what I love about this bunch is how they kind of pull back the covers to reveal a more subtle approach, pacing themselves with a steady vocal delivery that kind of glues everything in the track together. Jittery and calm all at once…a twist I admittedly hadn’t expected here. Looking forward to Microcosmic Things dropping on July 10th.

Check This New Eades Tune

I’m so stuck on this brand new track from Leeds outfit Eades that I just had to share it with you all. Imagine falling in love with a band like Omni, then taking those angular little guitar notes and turning them into a softened smoother pop jam? Sounds pretty good, right? But, just because they’ve kind of polished the edges, doesn’t mean there’s still not a great urgency in the rhythm section to drive the bop feel home for listeners. I felt like the chorus also gave a nice little reflective pause that made the song supremely endearing. They’ll release Microcosmic Things on July 10th via Bam Bam Records.
