Stream Young Scum’s Lighter Blue

One of the records we’ve been looking forward to jam, though we may have had a sneak listen, is the latest from Young Scum. They dropped it over the weekend, working under the radar, as the song’s and the band’s fanbase don’t ask for needless Friday release dates! Personally, it only takes the album opener to immediately get you seated for a great jangling pop show. There’s definitely some surprises in here too, like “Limeade,” which is a wonderful ballad that I honestly didn’t expect, but was completely into the more I spent time with the record. You better grab a copy of Lighter Blue right now, before Pretty Olivia run out of copies!

Young Scum Share Peach Ice Cream

If you need a tasty treat to take into the weekend, then perhaps you should indulge yourself in this “Peach Ice Cream” from Young Scum. This song feels like a race, like a bunch of kids scrambling to get to the ice cream man first, hoping to bite into that sugary goodness as quickly as possible; it’s filled with a boundless energy and springing jangles that aim to rock you nice and hard. But, we’ve got to pace ourselves, right? So, the band take that sugar high and pull it back into the warmth of the melodic vocal touches throughout. Like a tootsie roll pop, it takes a few plays to get to that warm center. 1-2-3, to be exact. Lighter Blue is out September 8th via Pretty Olivia Records.

Young Scum Announce Lighter Blue + Share Title Track

I’ll admit, I had Chime School’s next LP in the running for best jangle pop record of the year, but, they better be looking over their shoulder, as Young Scum are right on their heels with today’s album announcement and title track! While they’ve been out of the game, so to speak since their debut in 2018, it seems that they’ve just been honing their skills, sharpening their jangles and savoring melodies; they are ready to unleash that here, and they do, with a spritely number that shines bright like the North Star, guiding you to the perfect collection of pop songs. Plus, they must have read my mind, as they employ these “woah woah woahs,” channeling every bit of joy they could muster into a heart-warming moment. The reflective yearning in the melody and lyrical content matches up perfectly too, making old pop fans like myself giddy at the promise of the future. Lighter Blue is out September 8th via Pretty Olivia Records.
