Last Week’s Jams (5.27 – 5.31)

A strange week we had last week; I blame the Memorial Day holiday for that, as it started us all off a bit slow. For whatever reason, we didn’t get a lot of fresh tunes, so I, of course, was out there digging deep to unearth some stuff you’re probably not going to find in a ton of other spots, like the new T.G. Shand or Holding Hour singles. It was good to get another single from the next the Martial Arts LP, plus our old friend Stephen popped up with his new project Shortcuts. And, as I’ve been trying to do more, there were some great records like the new Neutrals and Oh Boland LPs I wanted to nod towards too. It’s all in the playlist below.

I know that the majority of us really only enjoy our pop rock when it’s got these huge English hooks, but if you will, indulge yourself in Spanish outfit Lisasinson an their new single. They tease with a piano line, tinkering with offering up some sort of slick 80s pop ballad, but they don’t hang out their too long, letting the guitars run in and rip right through. A steady beat lets the song open, allowing guitar notes to jangle while the vocals get delivered sharply; the chorus has this feeling of bombast, successfully pushing things in a pure pop direction. You can feel the emotional push that gets your blood pumping and your spirit rising. This is the second single from the band’s next album, offered up by Elefant, with more news to follow.

Trying to keep pace with ourselves, we covered a ton of ground last week on the site. We got to premiere a psychedelic campfire jam from Mountain Movers, and we might be one of the few US-based sites covering Dr. Sure’s Unusual Practice…which steps in line with that Cola track we also ran. There’s a bit Austin contingent too this week, as Variety, Blushing, Strand of Oaks and Good Looks all honored us with fresh music from their forthcoming releases. We also flirted with a bit of electronic arts too, with new stuff from Martha Rose and Maria Chiara Argiro…just so you don’t think we’re all rock n’ roll over here. Lisasinson Share Salgo a la Calle

It’s been a minute since I’ve run a proper Spanish language tune, and since I’ve long loved the worked of Lisasinson, today seems like the perfect day to work their new single into the mix. There’s no hiding the fact that this is a pure pop rock track, even if you might not grasp the lyrical content. Running into the track with that insatiable bounce, you’re going to find the fish hooks under your skin; the vocals are coolly offered up, driving a dash of melody into the core. Through its opening minutes you can hear this growling guitar wanting to join in the fray, and eventually it makes its way into the forefront, ripping through the softened melody and exploding with a tenacity that keeps the song’s edge in tact.

There’s something about listening to Lisasinson that just makes life seem like a whole lot of fun; they fill their songs with joy and fun and hooks and riffs, in turn filling up my rock tank every time they drop a new single. In a few weeks they’ll be dropping a new mini-album, Perdona Mama, so this is our last chance to get a little sneak at what’s in store. The video is filled with antics and a solid rabbit chase, but I’m mostly sold on how consistently the quartet seem to just churn out these crushing pop rock tunes. To me, it’s all about the execution, they don’t try to do too much with the song, just staying steady around a solid vocal melody and quick rhythm lines. Seemingly simple, but it only rips if its done just right, like this lot. Look for the album to drop on April 9th via Elefant Records.

At the very beginning of this year, Spanish outfit Lisasinson released “Atasco;” its been one of my favorite singles of the year, period. They return now with another single, just as infectious as the first one, which is part of their new single for Elefant Records. It starts with a ringing guitar steadily making its way through your speakers. Suddenly it drops in and the song takes off with more energy; the video version matches that exuberance by showing the group at their playful best together, showing us just a little bit of the joy still left out in the world. Don’t be turned away by the Spanish lyrics; you’ll miss out on a total pop rock ripper you need in your life!

One of my favorite songs this year is “Atasco” by Spanish pop outfit Lisasinson. The band are still holed up working on their LP at the moment, but while we patiently wait, they’ve leaked another great single to help get us all there. As you’d expect from this bunch; its a riotous pop affair from the get-go; the song just reeks of summertime fun…and at the moment, that’s probably what we’re all needing in our lives at this very moment. Just another fun ditty to get us through the day. Keep an eye out here; I love jamming these tunes. Oh…and there’s a VIDEO too if you’re into it!

This is going to be a hard pill for you to swallow, but I absolutely guarantee that the best song you’re going to hear today is this new jam from Spanish quartet Lisasinson. The first 40 seconds, I was sold, but also sort of on pins and needles wondering where would this song go? Little did I know it’d drop in and rock my socks off! I nearly jumped out of my chair and started flailing around the room; I’m old now so I just tapped my toes super hard. It’s scuzzy in all the right places, and filled to the brim with melodies you can’t get out of your head, no matter how hard you try. Their new single is out today via Elefant, and I’ll probably listen to it another twelve or thirteen times before I even post this.
