Starman Jr. Shares Bad

There are a ton of artists who claim bedroom pop ethos, and while I generally like those, there are only a few that really capture that sentiment in its entirety. Starman Jr. is one such artists, crafting quite pop tunes that tug at you, begging you to just immerse yourself in a good headphones and pillow listen. There are even some vocal notes that sound like early Elliott, which I’m definitely not against. The Louisiana artist has tons of similar tunes, just waiting for you to fall into that listening hole, which seems like an apt way to spend your upcoming Bandcamp Friday.

Bright Number From Rupe

Rupert Lange is a young man from Louisiana who has been playing music with several projects over the years, but recently decided to officially step out on his own under the moniker Rupe. With new nickname in tow, the young Lange has been hard at work on new music during quarantine and recently completed this tune called “Wait it Out”. What I am impressed with is the ability here to take a simple songwriter style and then add in subtle things like slight synth effects, or swirling guitar parts to create something of real beauty. One can really get lost in the entrancing sounds of this song.

Electric Arch Share One More Single

Prior to the Friday release date of new album Out of Range, New Orleans based Electric Arch has this new single called “Las Ramblas” ready for your listening pleasure. The band, featuring compositions from main main James Marler, features a heavy layered, beat driven style of pop music. As I continue to listen to this song a few times, I’m finding new layers to peel back and discover each and every time. It’s wild man.

Brand New Set of Tunes from Frail

frailSomewhere along the lines of running this blog I stumbled onto Frail, excited by the band’s blend of pop structures and punk tinge. Admittedly, they’re like the heavier version of Nada Surf, bringing in a great sense of melody, though with a quicker pace. Plus, the songs are rather short and infectious, making them perfect for repeated listens throughout your day. Sugar Heaven just popped up yesterday, so you’ve got plenty of time to absorb the hits before your friends catch on to how cool you truly are, so give ita long listen.

More From Givers

unnamed (18)I mentioned earlier this month how excited I was to hear about the return of Louisiana based pop group GIVERS. The band was always a fairly straightforward pop group with a bit of quirkiness thrown in for good measure. This new material though is showing great promise and maturity, especially with this new single “Bermuda”. It’s definitely heavier and more fleshed out than anything I’ve ever heard from the band in the past. Here’s to a bright future.

GIVERS Return!

unnamed (14)Man it seems like it’s been years since we’ve heard any noise from Louisiana based pop band Givers. Just running a quick search here…. and yeah I last posted on the band way back in 2010. So you can probably imagine my excitement today when I received this new tune entitled “Growls” in my inbox. It seems as though the time away has allowed the band to really mature and flesh out their sound from their bright pop days of old. Now the band resemble more of a mixture of Dirty Projectors and older Yeasayer. Count me in for that.

New Kingdom will come out on April 8th via Glassnote Records.
