Model Shop Share Lucky

In just a coupe of weeks, we’ll get to hear the entirety of the new Model Shop LP, but we finally get to hear the opening tune, which certainly sets the tone for the record and the band’s intentions. A thumping drum joins up with an acoustic strum, bringing about a galloping earnestness that kicks off hook-laden pop rock you’ll rush to turn up. They up the ante though, as one hook surely isn’t enough for the average pop fan, so they add in some vocal harmonies, adding both contrast and exuberance; it’s an immediate shot to the listener, letting us all know the group aim to please! Love Interest will be out via Meritorio Records on November 25th.

Matthew Shaw Shares Lucky

I’m not going to lie, I’ve bee listening to a lot of the Postal Service of late; it just hits the right notes for my anxiety. But, as I listened to this new track Matthew Shaw, it kind of reminded me of a similar style. The beats aren’t too heavy-handed, so they don’t intrude too much on the natural vocal melody. Plus, as the track progresses, you get a little more layering, kind of like stacking electronic bricks until you’ve built this perfect little pop house for everyone to enjoy. Fun little way to kickstart your Friday, and pop you into the weekend!

Dehd Announce New Album

While the late 00s garage/surf re-hash got tired after a few years, it’s still one of my favorite sounds, particularly when it’s presented in a refreshing manner, like Chicago’s Dehd are doing. You can hear that sound immediately, matched by steadying percussion; it’s catchy too, but it’s the chorus that comes in right at the thirty second mark that really drew me into the song. It takes the track into an almost soulful ballad, though it always holds onto the band’s sense of exuberance with the “sha la la la” that crash at the end of the chorus. Catchy and nostalgic, this track makes the forthcoming Water LP very promising; it drops on May 10th via Fire Talk.
