Lulu Drop Tous les Etes

While I admittedly find myself limited in my understanding of French, I do find that my love of good old fashioned rock n’ roll is still going strong, thus why I chose to crank this Lulu track in your ears. It’s got that satisfying staggered riff that has your feet tapping and your body bouncing up and down, ready to rock without a care in the world. They drive the pace right at you, letting you free when they drop into the group chorus, maximizing the joy and punch you’d get from a classic power-pop chorus. And, just as you think the track’s over, stay tuned for a sneaky bit of pop fun at the back side! Look for their self-titled album via Howlin Banana on June 6th.

Johnnie Carwash Share Aha (It’s Ok) Video

Lyon pop outfit Johnnie Carwash have a new record coming out at the end of March, and for my two cents, they’re channeling all the joy one can get from an indiepop tune, albeit with a bit more rambunctiousness. Each verse has this sharp, punctuated vocal delivery that reminds me an awful lot of Love is All, with danceable riffs circling all around the emphatic bursts. It’s a vibrant tune that echoes through your room with a magnitude of joyousness, freeing you momentarily from the constraints of the real world as you celebrate together. Their new LP will be out on March 29th, and we’ll keep you posted!

Fontanarosa Share OH ID Video

I’m always keen to see what’s going on with Howlin Banana Records, as they’re always uncovering cool gems we’re probably not getting force-fed over here in the States. This past week they announced the forthcoming Are You There LP from Lyon’s Fontanarosa. At times, this feels like a meditative post-punk, with the rhythm tripping over itself as the vocals indifferently drop through your speakers. Hitting the 2 minute mark, the song begins to open up beyond that, stretching itself beyond the meditative state into a little bit of discord and artiness, while still keeping that pulsing rhythm that drives the tune forward. The LP is out on March 18th!

Gloria Shares You Had It All Video

As we look forward to 2021 (thank goodness), its time to start looking for some new musical voices to keep us captivated, which is where we meet up with French outfit Gloria. They’ve just released this great brand new single, a bewitching number taken from their forthcoming Sabbat Matters LP. It’s an interesting jam, somewhere between modern psychedelia stomps, Fleetwood Mac nods and dream pop; I love the textural mixture that comes with that, which is what’s been drawing me to this tune…that and it seems to transport you back in time, and I’m digging that feel! You can grab the new LP in March via Howlin Banana Records.
