Solid Rocker From Interlay

As we are out here doing the festival thing, it only makes sense to also share some tunes that align with a lot of things we are seeing this weekend. This new tune, “Androgynous”, from Madison, WI based Interlay seems like it’s something we might hear from an opening band on Red River during Levitation. I love the loudness, frantic energy, and overall tightness of production from such a young band. Ya dig.

“Androgynous” is out via all platforms from new label N.I.T.A. Records.

Red Pants Ready When We Were Dancing

We’re about a week away from the release of Red Pants‘ new long-player, so seems a fitting Friday to slide in and visit a couple of the tunes they’ve got headed your way. On the opening tune of the record you’ll find this heavy guitar vibe, almost something out of the early 90s post-hardcore scene, but the vocals contrast that, creating a softer underbelly that releases the pop-centric vibe. Later down the album you end in the quick banger, “Another Haircut,” which is like a rambunctious roll in the hay, with my only complaint being its quick end! Two great tracks to whet your appetite before When We Were Dancing drops next week via Paisley Shirt Records.

Have Another Slow Pulp Tune

The Chicago, by way of Madison, based band Slow Pulp has slowly been building a following over the last year with several solid tunes hitting the interwebs. Earlier this summer we shared with you new single “Idaho” and now I am beyond pleased to have this fresh new single called “At it Again” hitting the site today. As we’ve all seen from the band on prior singles, this one again features some expert musicianship, especially the drums, paired with the more intimate, quiet voice of singer Emily Massey. It’s sort of like a more banging version of POBPAH or Alvvays. Definitely worth a listen today.

Slow Pulp will release new album Moveys on October 9th via Winspear.

Slow Pulp Announce Debut Album

After year filled with tons of turmoil for the band, not including the current pandemic, the Chicago based outfit known as Slow Pulp will finally be releasing their debut LP this fall. The album, recorded mostly in 2019 while on tour with Alex G, features 10 beautifully crafted numbers about the band’s resourcefulness and resiliency during their unthinkable times as a band. To preview the new album, the band has shared the lead single “Idaho” which features the always striking vocals of Emily Massey in front of a sort of slacker, yet powerful brand of indie rock. I love how the slower moments show this bit of restraint as the tension builds and things really tend to pop off during the heavier, banging moments.

Slow Pulp’s upcoming album Moveys will release on October 9th via Winspear.

Hop Onboard The Disq Hype Train

Madison, WI based band Disq has certainly been receiving a ton of praise around the interwebs for their early singles. And hey crazy thing, we were part of the hype back in March as we interviewed the band during SXSW! All that noise out of the way, I recommend you come aboard the Disq fan train by checking out this banging new single & accompanying video called “Daily Routine”. Though some may call it power pop, which sure, it is as its core, but I also hear some undertones of forward thinking 90s bands like POTUSOA or even Blur. It’s quite rad. They will also be returning again in March for SXSW so you’ll have a chance to see them again.

Disq will release new album Collector on May 6th via Saddle Creek. Pre-orders are live now.

New Music and Free Album from Treefort

Madison’s always had a vibrant music scene, and it appears there’s a new band coming out of the scene that I expect to make some waves.  Treefort is the name of the group, and they’ve just released Tres Fort.  On the opening track, which we’ve got below, the track opens with cascading guitars; I dig the bright guitar beneath the fuzzed out riffs.  It’s a bit like a shoe gaze track, but there’s more of a concise pop element to it.  The band just released this record for free on their site, but you can also help the group out by purchasing a cassette from them for super cheap.  Hope you dig it.
