Greg Mendez Shares Maria Single

One record that should definitely be on your radar for the upcoming month or so is the brand new LP from Greg Mendez. I’ve been a fan of his work, and this new single has this really playful vocal delivery in the verses that almost seems too playful and charming for its own good. He spins that right into a more calmed chorus, almost whispering to the listener through the line “but then somebody said.” I don’t want to pigeonhole Greg by any means, but if you’re looking for vibes in the vein of Elliott Smith jamming in a studio session with Tony Molina’s solo work, well, then here you have it. And if you have the time, read the lyrics as you listen, as I’m still totally in love with the way he’s breaking up the syllables and the lines in the main verse section. His self-titled LP will be out on May 5th via Forged Artifacts and Devil Town Tapes.

Divino Nino Share Maria

Three out of four folks working on this site at one time studied Spanish or lived in Spanish speaking countries, so you could say it runs through out site. This track from Divino Nino is sung entirely in Spanish, though I don’t think that really detracts from non-speakers. It all begins with this casual strum, aided by a sort of keyboard wash in the background. When the vocals come through, I loved the way the syllables were sort of drawn out to match the speed of the strummed guitar; and then came the light little textural arrangements that brought the song to life. Que hermosa! The band will release Foam on June 21st via Winspear.

Lionlimb Announce New Album/Video

Lionlimb, comprised of Stewart Bronaugh andJoshua Jaeger, have announced that they’ve signed to Bayonet Records. With this announcement, they’ve shared the first video from this album for the track, “Maria,” which is a six minute twenty second sonic journey through several different genres. What strikes me most about this track is the orchestral elements that sweep through the mix and carry the song with grace and delicacy. You have a solid indie rock song for sure, but there’s this extra layer of beauty that makes it hard not to slip into the song. Check out the video below and look out forTape Recorder, which will be out February 23 via Bayonet Records.
