Monnone Alone Share River of Sighs

I thought good old Mark Monnone was playing a trick on me when I first press play; I mean, I didn’t expect a vocal sample in a different language! But, as the guitar lines begin to sound familiar and friendly, that’s when I notice that Monnone Alone is still an on-going project, and thus entitled to grow and try out new tricks. The trick here is perfect execution, with one of the best vocal performances I can remember from Mark; it’s aided by the perfect little detailed backing vocal too. There is something light and good-natured here, however, like a bug setting sail on a loose leaf and sailing down a stream, nothing but promise of a new horizon on its mind. Here Comes the Afternoon will be out on May 2nd via Lost and Lonesome/Meritorio/Safe Suburban Home.

As an avowed Mark Monnone fan, I feel obligated to make you aware that he’s got his fourth Monnone Alone LP ready to go; it’s titled Here Comes the Afternoon, and will be released by a trio of great indie labels. With said announcement, the record gets a new single too, which has a sunny little bounce to it, something that makes the track infinitely more playful. There’s all sorts of percussive elements included, kind of bringing out the old kitchen sink analogy, and in doing that, it forces Mark and company to kind of move and break down their boogie into something loaded with hooks and joy. This new LP is being released on May 2nd by Meritorio Records, Repeating Cloud and Lost/Lonesome…three of our favorites!

Monnone Alone have a new LP in the works, and as we await final details, Mark Monnone has been teasing us with great singles to whet our appetite, like today’s “Loose Terrain.” The song takes the band’s soft pop approach and blends it with these little psychedelic flourishes on the border, giving off this sort of spiritual burst that adds a bit of boogie to your day. I love how there’s this natural swing that hits in the chorus, as Mark always maximizes a bit of playfulness in his craft, letting you get swept up in the musical charms being churned out. Late in 2021, Monnone Alone dropped Stay Foggy. You’d think we’d just move on, but we’re hanging early in the morning with Aussie sounds, so I of course have to throw my weight behind this new video from the album. The tune is fairly simple, and one of the shorter on the LP, with just a light strum and Mark’s voice hanging in the air. In the video version, you get the shadowy Monnone figure walking through a changing backdrop created by director (and also musician) Lehmann B. Smith. It’s a quick reminder that the album cycle never dies, so revisit Stay Foggy by jumping over HERE.

A little over a year ago, Mark Monnone and his Monnone Alone project released the sparkling Stay Foggy LP. But, seeing as it’s never a bad time to share a nice tune, Mark and company have crafted a video for the record’s title track, and so here I am. The video captures the sort of astral spirit of Mark, as he walks about in the song’s opening minutes, all before he opts to ride on a cloud down a darkened street as he fuzzes up his guitar playing. It’s a great tune, with shimmering crystalline notes and Mark’s soft vocal tones, so perhaps you missed it the first time around, so go HERE to correct that!

Monnone Alone Shares Feel It Disappearing Video

This is our site and we do what we want! Sure, I introduced you to the great new “Feel It Disappearing” single from Monnone Alone a few weeks ago, but I wanted to remind you of its pull by sharing this brand new video version of the tune! It’s also in my Top 10 songs of 2021 right now; I think I have it at the No. 4 spot. You get some great images of Mark traversing the wild, socially distanced of course, not to mention some additional flare added in by director Simon Fazio. Still claiming that hook at the 2:17 mark might be one of my favorite 10 second pop nuggets of the year, period. Don’t you agree? Whatever. This song rips. This song appears on the forthcoming Stay Foggy LP (and on a 7″ too) available via Lost and Lonesome and Emotional Response.

Monnone Alone Announces Brand New 7″

It doesn’t seem like Summer of the Mosquito was released almost 2 years ago! Alas, Mark Monnone, formerly of the Lucksmiths, is at it again with a brand new 7″ under his Monnone Alone moniker, and hinting at an LP later in the year! Feuding guitar sounds open the tune, one bringing in fuzzy edges and the other a light-hearted beach stomp, giving off this sort of bewildering pop sensibility. And, while I love the steadfast pop quality, I think the true winner here is Mark’s vocal performance; he doesn’t seem to miss a note, almost as if he’s singing at some beachside lounge resort, making all the kids scream and swing about as they spill their Mai-Tais in the sand. You want to take a bite out of some truly great pop music? Then give this one about 12-13 spins; I know I certainly have. Like the Beach Boys, but honestly, better. The 7″ is out at the end of March via Lost and Lonesome/Emotional Response/Meritorio/Royal Mint. Here I go skipping down the hallways of our school screaming and bouncing “I’m going to lose my mind!”

Mark Monnone Goes Out Alone

Mark Monnone penned albums take up a great deal of space in my personal collection, so as he ventures out on his own again under the name Monnone Alone it seems like the only appropriate way to end a Friday. Whether or not you fawned over the Lucksmiths, I think any fan of pop music would have a difficult time turning their ear away from these two gems. The A-side on this new 7″ definitely has its way with melody, though the volume is quite forceful, allowing the rock n’ roll underbelly to surge through your walls. On the B-side you get more of a playful charm, a touch more light-hearted, though equally as emotively striking. Luckily, these two tracks come with a promise of a new LP in 2019.
