Well, the year’s fully in swing, as evidenced by the ridiculous amount of music we got to listen to, though we only managed to write about a mere 25+ tracks and albums. I’ll cop to the fact that the end of the week was the highlight, hitting with a new Lone Striker single on the same day we got The Laughing Chimes album out there. Buffet Lunch continued to flex their musicianship, while the Rishis offered a brand single from their next LP. New Tunde Adebimpe and La Securite had us on the trends, but in the end, I was just glad to hear new stuff from our friends in Seasonal Falls. What will be your favorite jam of last week?

Mauger Shares There Goes Your Man

Belgian artist Mauger has popped up on this site on several occasions, and the latest track feels like a great start to the week, from my ears anyways. When it begins, there’s a gentle softness, almost a kind of coy little croon that slinks into fragile indie pop. Then, you get a little plot twist with a nice little nod from the electronic belly, setting up the chorus with this perfect little twist that delivers that emotional connection you’ve been seeking. He’s still wrapping up the pieces to his new record, so keep an eye out for more in the very near future.

After a fairly slow week, we hit it hard this week, bringing you a nice collection of great tunes, as we’re focused on that side while everyone else is scrambling to wrap up their year end lists. There was a heavy Austin contingent, particularly as we announced we’ll be dropping the new EP from Fantastic Purple Spots; Austin also brought us new stuff from Variety, Burgess Meredith, David Israel, and Being Dead. The Laughing Chimes made us realize that there’s still time left in 2024 for brilliant pop music, while Feeling Figures popped in with a video to remind us how great their last LP was. And, all of it kicks off with a great introduction to Lone Striker. Little bit of this, little bit of that, little bit of Dwight Yoakam.

I’m a sucker for heart-warming pop music, and even more so when it’s crafted by a father-daughter duo. Belgian act Mauger has been around for some time, but only recently moved into more of a solo project, thus leading Mauger to hole up at home with a guitar and electronics to build his next record. On this spritely tune, he’s joined by his daughter, which definitely raises the sugary nature; it’s carries such a lightness that you can almost catch a glimmer of promise on the horizon…which I know a ton of us are needing at the moment. There’s the promise of a new LP in the Spring, so keep your ears ready!

There were a lot of great songs coming our way last week, as well as a lot of great album to spend time with when you got to Friday. We tried to make sure we got your ears on as much as we could, so hopefully you can revisit those posts from last week to grab a little bit of joy from those tunes. Driving New Tune From Mauger

Belgium based MAUGER came onto our ready right at the beginning of summer with their brand of driving, yet still poppy brand of indie rock. Hitting fast forward a bit, the band has released a slew of new singles this summer and actually just dropped their entire new album, SHINY, for stream and purchase last Friday. Instead of trying to woo you or overwhelm with an entire album, we thought you might like to stream a real highlight from the album with this single “Nr 79”. How this band is stirring up more buzz is beyond me, but our aim is to help spread their name and solid tunes.

Well, last week was a struggle. End of the school year, for two teachers, and well, then that other thing, so we barely got to the end of the week, let alone hit the musical stride with our usual fervor. So, our end of week wrap-up, which we give you at the beginning, is a little short. But, there’s new jams from great releases like R.E. Seraphin, Why Bonnie or Dehd, plus a rad new track off Hazy Sour Cherry‘s forthcoming LP for Damnably. And hey, you can never go wrong having a Tony Molina tune in there. So, here’s to one foot in front of the other with our favorite jams from last week.

Mauger Ready New Album, Share Minute to Rest

Belgium band Mauger are preparing to get their follow-up to 2020’s Sunday Competition out in the world, and they start today with this delightful new single. The airy drive of the guitar bob and weave definitely had me from the get-go, and there’s this nostalgic pop feel to the vocal style, something that reminds me of being a kid. And while I’m likely far off, the chorus just feels like its perfect this week, or this year, or the last few years with the repeat of of “I never got a minute to rest;” it just feels like we all need that moment and can’t quite get there. Whatever it is, light head bobs abound with this sweet tune. I’ll get you more info when I know it about the new LP.
