Sad Eyed Beatniks Share Monumental Ensemble

There’s definitely some great tunes coming out today, monumentally so, such as the new single from Sad Eyed Beatniks. This single pulls on you immediately; the lonesome guitar and pacing feel like a leaf casually taking a ride down a slow-moving stream. Kevin Linn’s voice has this brightness that carries through the wistful bend of the notes, though it also gravitates towards a whispering effect, faintly tickling your ears as it billows right by you. If you find yourself in the market for sleepy pop tunes that help you escape the mundane trials of the world, then be sure to pick up Ten Brocades before its July 12th release date via Meritorio Records.

This week wasn’t as dominating in terms of brand new singles and what not hitting the site; I’m not sure why there was a lull in single releases. Friday’s are a great day to kick back and absorb the new music that’s coming out, with a definite bonus for those of you who follow our site as there are new releases from some of our favorite artists. Amy O has an excellent record hitting today, plus you get the elegant sounds of Gregor if you’re looking for that immersive pop experience. Stephen’s Shore Share Under the Pine

I don’t always invest in EPs, but you better believe that when I do its because Stephen’s Shore have released something pretty special. They’ve got Neptune EP on the horizon, and today share a more pensive piece that’s really gotten stuck in my brain. While they’re last single held tight to a bit of bounce, this single sees them sinking further into the mistiness of songwriting; there’s almost a dense cloud of pop sentimentality that pervades every inch of the track. In a way, it reminds me of a cleaner version of what the Mary Onettes excelled at; there’s this somber quality that presented in this fashion somehow works in contrast and gives you this little hint of spirit. Feel like the rainy weather outside my window and this tune couldn’t have been better timed for one another. If you want to invest in this EP, buy it from Meritorio Records before it drops on May 10th.

Oh Boland Announces Western Leisure

Irish act Oh Boland might have the surprise hit record of the year, at least if we’re going off this opening track. There’s this natural enthusiasm that bleeds through the speakers, matching the thumping drum work with the emphatic vocal delivery that serves to work the listeners into a frenzy. You’ll find this natural frivolity in the tune that will likely recall any number of Flying Nun acts, so for those in search of a freeing bit of rock n’ roll, might we suggest you crank this one up really loud? Western Leisure will be released on May 31st via Mertirio Records.

Laughing Announce Because It’s True

If you’re not ready to enjoy some of the best power-pop around, then you may as well skip onto the next track, as this fresh Laughing tune is just too tasty. At first listen, you might hear a bit of a nod to Teenage Fanclub, and there’s nothing wrong with that, though the band settle into a little bit more casual and direct spin, harkening to the left-of-the-dial hits of late 90s college rock. The musicianship is pretty stellar when you pull your ears really close to the noise, with overlapping guitar lines swinging the listener back and forth like a great pop rock lullaby. Feels a bit like a house party thrown by members of Ash, Superdrag and Teenage Fanclub, and there’s not a single person who isn’t wearing a big old-fashioned shit-eating grin on their face. Because It’s True is out June 28th via Celluloid Lunch/Meritorio Records.

Rural France Share Guideropes

We’ve received two pretty energetic tunes from Rural France thus far, all hinting at an exciting new record from the group. Today, there’s a bit more of a relaxed vibe in their work, playing with our expectations while also illustrating some of the differentiation we’re likely to find on the LP. The crunchiness of the guitar lines hints at an almost Pacific Northwest rock jam, but while burning up their amps, the band also remain tethered to their pop tendencies, using dueling vocals and overlapping melodies to provide that emotional connection. All things are pointing towards Exactamondo! being a knockout; it drops on April 26th via Meritorio Records.

Every few years Stephen’s Shore gift us the glory of a new track, much like they’re doing today with the announcement of their new Neptune EP. It’s difficult to decide which aspect of the tune I’m more attracted to after my first five or six listens here. At one point, the way the jangling guitars open up on the back of a bobbing bass line feels like the sun’s coming up over the hills here in Austin; there’s a natural bright emotive quality that one can’t escape. That said, there’s this wistful nostalgia in the vocal presentation. The notes are warm, though there’s a bit of looking back that pervades, even in the lyrics. A bright way to kick off a new EP; Neptune is out via Meritorio Records on May 10th.

Oh Boland Announces Western Leisure

Slow day on the scene as of late, but wouldn’t you know it, Meritorio Records had something up their sleeve just for us: Oh Boland. The Irish outfit has just announced their latest LP, Western Leisure, filling our ears with this joyous barroom rock n’ roll. For my two cents, its not too far away from what Paul Westerberg wanted, taking this sort of rock-steady guitar sound and infusing it with a bit more punch and twang. At times, you’ll find it hard to ignore the sheer exuberance from the boisterous gang vocals that seem to celebrate life. Here’s your chance to turn it up and just have some fun; Western Leisure is out on May 31st.
