Michael Beach Shares Metaphysical Dice Video

Australia’s Michael Beach just dropped his latest LP, Dream Violence, and now we’re treated to the really creative video work of Sophia Mero for “Metaphysical Dice.” When listening to this tune, its really all about the way that they song is textured, and it depends on what your ear draws you towards. At times, the incredible bass work is just driving the song, pulsing and bobbing and you can’t pull away. But, as you focus there, the jangling guitars in the distance start to gain more resonance, seemingly rising through the mix to take control. Through it all, Beach has this fascinating vocal delivery; it’s like a call to prayer, powerfully stretching the melody across the entirety of the tune, beckoning you to heed his words. If you dig, the LP is available via Goner Records!

Michael Beach Shares You Found Me Out

When Michael Beach first announced Dream Violence with “De Facto Blues,” I got exactly what I expected, considering the last time we heard from him he’d been on tour with Thigh Master; it was all energy. But, if you’ve heard his songwriting, you had to know there was a heartbreaking ballad just hanging in there. On this new tune, it’s built around Michael and this lonesome piano line from the get-go; it presents this solitary figure, delivering this personal performance that’s crushes your soul in the best way. But, Beach builds in this buoyant pop moment around the 1:12 mark, where it begins to open up the song into this delicately woven opus; strings pull at your heartstrings; keys exploded the galaxy behind Michael’s striking pipes. This one’s got all the damned feels! The new LP drops on March 19th via Goner/Poison City.

Michael Beach Announces Dream Violence

We’ve been covering Michael Beach for several years now, whether it be his solo work or his role in ATH faves Thigh Master, he’s always given us just the right rock dosage. Now we’ve got news from overseas that he’s going to be working with Goner Records for his new LP, Dream Violence (and Poision City in Australia). Honestly, my favorite thing are the two sides of Michael’s voice here. He starts off with this calming croon, something that seems to settle the rambunctious guitar work that opens the tune. But, just as soon as you’ve adjusted, guitars start to ring heavier and Beach takes on this primal howl that pushes everything to the very edge. Flare and discord marry and scuttle about in the midst of it all, creating this maniacal rocker burdened by its desire for pop sensibility. You can’t go wrong turning this one up real loud! The LP is out March 19th.

Stream Brain Drugs Self Titled LP

We first got wind of Australian instrumental duo Brain Drugs when they shared “Nightshift” single with us, along with its accompany video. Today, we kick off a case of the Thursdays by offering a stream of their new LP, a way to ease into your day with a little bit of curiosity and wonder. For me, there’s this primal nature that seems to seep through your speakers, perhaps due to the simplicity of keyboards and drums; the drum work always seems like the soundtrack to a march of humans. Still, perhaps you turn to a song like “Moulds” that spews this warmth from the synth sounds. Little twists and turns weave you through this instrumental landscape, so time for you to maze your way through these sounds. All proceeds from the album go to Victorian Aboriginal Legal Services.

Michael Beach Readies New 7″

You all know how I love the Melbourne scene quite a bit, and Michael Beach has definitely been on my radar beforehand (he’s currently playing in the live Thigh Master band). His latest project, Michael Beach & the Artists just dropped a hook-laden 7″, which we’d love for you to listen to below. The A-side “Curtain of Night” carries this almost honky-tonk Replacements vibe; it’s got this country swagger, under the guise of traditional discordant indie rock with the faintest hints of pristine melody. On the flip B-Side, you get more of an experimental bit, with this bounding keyboard and waling guitar playing backing roles to Beach’s spoken word poetics. The group kick off a US tour at Gonerfest, followed by some East Coast dates at the start of October. The 7″ is being released by Tall Texan.

Michael Beach Visits America Tonight at Beerland

Michael Beach came to our attention a few years ago, as a friend of a friend from Australia connected us…as he’s currently living in Melbourne. He’s got a handful of releases under his belt, but he ventures across the pond for his US tour on the back of a fresh 7″, which features the below single for “Sessin,” recently released by Poison City Records. Tonight he ventures out into the Austin nightlife over at Beerland, joined by the likes of Minimal Animal, Chronophage and Endless Sewer. Check out this great new jam below, and come out to Beerland tonight; the doors are at 8 PM! You can find the rest of Michael’s US tour dates HERE.

Fresh Video from Michael Beach

Australia’s Michael Beach was living in Oakland for a bit, and he was fortunate to lay down his next record with members of Comets on Fire and Meercaz. Today he’s dropped the animated video for his ode to friendship, and its great in two ways: 1) you get to listen to the really killer song 2) the video rules, making me feel like this sort of animation is under-utilized. This track has a great energy, and reminds me of our local friends A. Sinclair in its straightforward approach to good rock n’ roll. Michael will release Gravity/Repulsion, his next LP, this coming September!
