Show Preview: Tiger Waves @ Frank (1/19)

Date Thursday, Jan 19th
Location Frank
Doors 930 pm
Tickets $6 @ the Door

There are clearly some great bands playing at Frank on Thursday night, such as Gentleman Rogues and Milk Thistle, but the band I’m most excited to see is Tiger Waves.  I’ve raved about them here for the past couple of months, and they’ve been generous enough to share some of their tunes with us; however, I’ve yet to actually catch them in the live setting.  They’ve got this old fashioined pop sound, seemingly crafted with great care, and if they can capture every bit of their recorded sound live, then I’ll probably return to rave about them again on Friday.  I know there are other shows about town, but this seems like the best place to be Thursday.

Free Week Recommendations for Wednesday

Ah, have you had yourself a little blast thus far? Who doesn’t want to enjoy Free Week?  Wednesday, in my mind, seems a little slower than the rest of the nights, perhaps giving you a breather before a most excellent weekend line-up.  Still, there are definitely some acts that you need to check out, if you know what’s good for you!

Residual Kid (8 PM) @ Antones — This is one of the youngest and most talented acts in town, so you definitely need to be there as these guys make the town proud. And, if you stick around, you can catch the Rocketboys.

Literature @ 29th Street Ballroom — Literature is perhaps one of the best up-and-coming bands, and you’ll be hearing more from us in regards to these guys in the next few weeks, as we’re working on editing an awesome video of the band. Oh, and there’s some other great groups like No Mas Bodas and Milk Thistle.

Show Pics: Cymbals Eat Guitars @ Emo’s

Plenty of shows getting thrown about these days, this was the end of a three night run. Cymbals Eat Guitars headlined with Milk Thistle and Hooray for Earth.

The nostalgic feelings grow with each show at Emo’s. I found myself taking more pics of the place for the archive. There was ice in the urinal. No pics of that. Milk Thistle shared crafted Indie-Pop, Hooray for Earth battled technical difficulties and Cymbals Eat Guitars played a perfect set.

A few more thoughts and plenty of pics after the break…

Show Preview: Tim Kasher @ the Mohawk (9/6)

Date Tuesday, September 6th
Location Mohawk
Doors 900p
Tickets $12 from Frontgate

It’s quite possible that you’ve forgotten Tim Kasher, as Cursive seems to have slowed things down, but Tim’s been doing his own thing for quite some time, wether under his given name or The Good Life.  He’s always got a personal story to tell, and he weaves his words well. You’ll be able to enjoy his passion for songwriting, with a full band no less, Tuesday night at the Mohawk, which should also give you time to enjoy the great weather we seem to have stumbled upon.  Also opening the show is Aficionado and Milk Thistle.  Give it a go; you’ve got nothing to lose.

A great show is going down Saturday night at Red 7 with some of the best talent this little town has to offer.  Your stacked lineup of up and comers includes The White White Lights, She Sir, A Tiger Named Lovesick, and recent ATH favorite Milk Thistle.  All of these bands could be thrown into the favorites of Austin Town Hall bag.  We recommend that you don’t miss this chance to see these bands, as I’m sure they’ll be playing to larger crowds soon.

New Music From Milk Thistle

Austin’s very own Milk Thistle recently release a new EP Dread’s Bloom that we ATH kids have been spinning around our offices.  They’ve got a great driving sound that hits straight in your chest with heavy bass and powerful vocals to boot.  Below you can find my favorite song by the band “Goldin Theng”.  If this one strikes your fancy, you can check out two more songs by Milk Thistle over on their bandcamp page.  I believe the Austin scene is gonna have a great 2011.

Date 11/22/10
Location Mohawk
Doors 7pm
Tickets $8 @ Frontgate

Pop indie kids Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin are stopping in at the Mohawk on Monday night in Austin.  Joining the guys on the inside stage you’ll see solid supporting bands Lonely Forest and Milk Thistle.  I say start the holiday early with this show to take you in to the long weekend.  Below you’ll also find recent single “Sink/Let It Sway” from SSLYBY which has for some reason never made it onto our site.
