Show Preview: Megafaun @ Mohawk (4/10)

Date Tuesday, April 10th
Location Mohawk
Doors 900p
Tickets $10 from Frontgate

In a busy week for our rock n’ roll community, this seems like a great place to start off with previews, unless you catch ATDIMegafaun has quietly been making a name for themselves with their gentle brand of folk rock–and we’ve love every bit of it. Their self-titled album from the fall of last year received some great praise all over the Internet, and it should say something that they’ve been chosen to pack Mohawk right after the Hold Steady finishes. Also on the bill for the evening is Field Report and Dana Falconberry, designed to perfectly whet your appetite for the Faun.  Come on, it’s time for us all to get out and take in the great music we’re so privileged to have come into town.

Show Pics: Best of Day Parties @ SxSW 2012

SxSW 2012 will not go away. It refuses to be ignored. It boils rabbits (that is a movie reference before anyone gets mad at SxSW).

I have a mess of pics from the day parties. This is a hot mess. I am still doing forensics on who and where based on when. I have a rough idea of where I was, but add in an occasional adult beverage, the fact that these were taken five days into my SxSW and I have a lousy memory, you can understand if the details evade. Regardless, these are some my favorite shutter clicks from the unofficial that has become official.

From MWTX to The Fader Fort presented by Converse (professional obligation there, you can thank Converse for saving Fader Fort), I got all kinds of bands performing in daylight. Yech, daylight…

As the music season starts to head into full-steam here at the end of January, the Mohawk has a nice little show to offer you this Monday evening: A Lull.  The constructionist pop outfit is bring their excellent effort, Confetti, to the live setting for all of you to enjoy, and I promise you that the band’s got a great deal to give in the live setting.  It’s similar to the work Animal Collective has done, just a lot less spastic, and a touch more sentimental. Opening the show will be Deleted Scenes and Tape Deck Mountain, so get there early to enjoy all the musical tastiness.

Show Preview: Mark Sultan @ the Mohawk (11/15)

Date Tuesday, November 15th
Location Mohawk
Doors 900p
Tickets $8 from Frontgate

Alright folks, you’ve got to get on this show!  The rock n’ roll season, at least for traveling bands, is winding down quickly.  In a week full of great shows, this is definitely one that requires your attendance.  A lot of you might know Mark Sultan as BBQ, who used to play with King Khan, but he’s just put out his own sweet little record, Whatever/Whenever, which actually came in a lot of great formats. It’s classic garage rock; it’s the sort that kicked off the whole revisiting of the genre, filled with hooks and dirty guitar playing.  Also, you’ll get a chance to see a lot of great local acts like A Giant Dog and Simple Circuit. It’s definitely a better choice than Morrissey.
