We’ve really been looking forward to this Bowerbirds show with Megafaun at Mohawk for awhile now and the time has finally come! The show will be on the inside stage and should start around 10pm. Tickets are only $8 at the door. Even better news, our very own Martin Crane of Austin band Brazos will be opening things up.

Mohawk has a nice lineup of local acts on the bill for Friday night which should be a good option for your weekend starting plans. The lineup includes locals The Ugly Beats, Shapes Have Fangs and English Teeth. Doors are set to open at 10pm with entrance fee at $6. If you’re looking for some real rock n roll in your life, head over to Mohawk on Saturday night for an incredible lineup of local acts. Both stages of Mohawk will be occupied with locals Scorpion Child, Eagle Claw, Pack of Wolves, Castle and Shitty Car Wash all performing during the night’s events. Tickets are only at the door and things start around 9pm.

Creators of one of our jams of summer, Foreign Born, are playing at Mohawk on Sunday evening. To make the show more enticing, The Veils and The Other Girls will be opening things up. For only $10 this should be a great way to close down your weekend. Doors are at 8pm.

TV Torso may not be a household name at this point, but I’m sure some of you are familiar with the Austin band Sound Team that disbanded forever in 2007. We mention them because two founding members of TV Torso, Matt Oiver (guitar/vocals) and Jordan Johns (drums) were both members of that now defunct Austin band. After adding bassist Austin Jones, the band has started fresh and are planning to take the Austin world by storm. TV Torso call their sound minimal rock music and try to keep their sound as simplistic as possible. Whatever you want to call it, we dig it. The band also recently finished recording two 7″ singles which will hit stores August 18th and will come with the vinyl, free downloads, a bonus download and a blank CD-R. You can catch these guys live on Thursday at Mohawk for free around midnight or on August 20th again at Mohawk along with fellow A2W band The Authors. Start your Wednesday night off right by heading to Mohawk for a set by Tortoise with local Austin band Balmorhea providing opening support. Tickets for this one are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. Things get started at 8pm. Do it!

Music fans in Austin get excited for Thursday as the day marks the triumphant return of indie-rockers Deer Tick to our little town. Your first chance to see the band is at a Waterloo in-store starting around 5pm with free keg beer of course. A full on proper set is to follow at Emo’s starting around 10pm with tickets running at $10. Dawes and Shed Alfred will join the lineup for the later show.

A truly under-appreciated new face to the alt-country world, Collin Herring is returning to Austin for a show at Mohawk on Tuesday night. The singer-songwriter will be joined on the stage by Tyler Jordan and Legs Against Arms. Tickets will be sold only at the door for $6. Here’s that song I still can’t get enough of “Punches”.

After receiving their new EP in the mail recently, we immediately found fairly new Austin band The Authors to be a solid choice for our artist to watch feature. The local outfit cites their influences as New Order, The Cure, and Phoenix which can all be heard in the sounds of the band. Some are quick to call them indie-pop, but The Authors are quick to refute such a confining label and warn that their sound doesn’t end there. We tend to agree. Check out the band’s catchiest tune “Put it On” below which appears on the aforementioned debut self-titled EP available on CD Baby or at your local record store. You can catch the band live July 23rd at Spider House or August 20th at Mohawk.
