As I’m scrolling through the upcoming shows this week, I stumbled across this great bill at Mohawk on Wednesday that I must have forgotten about. Headlining the loaded bill is longtime ATH favorite UK rockers The Crookes. Joining the guys on the bill are fellow ATH favorite Young Buffalo and local artist Stoney. This should make for a great middle of the week show to start your weekend early. See you there?

When we got a call from our friends in LA outfit, Criminal Hygiene, we jumped at the champ to help them organize a show. We got a couple of our favorite local acts, Pharaohs and Big Bill to join in on the bill, thus cementing a great rock n’ roll party that everyone would enjoy. Read on for a few short words and photos by B. Gray.
We know you’re all looking forward to the 4th of July and whatnot, but we want to give you plenty of time to plan your Sunday evening. We’re sponsoring a great little rock n’ roll show with a bunch of our friends, both in and out of town; it takes place at the Mohawk at 9 PM. Big Bill, one of our local favorites, is headlining the gig, and it’ll be one of your last chances to catch them before they embark on their big US tour. Also, rocking the night will be our favorites, Criminal Hygiene, who are coming all the way from LA to grace us with their presence; they’ll even be tending bar before the show at 6, so be sure to come hang out with the band. But, you better get there early to see Pharaohs, who’ve been banging out power-pop ditties for some time in our fair city, always winning us over. It’s sure to be a great night, so join us, please.
Those of you who read our twitter or know us personally know that ATH is all about soccer. We play, we watch, etc, so we’re more or less anticipating being in front of our TVs for the next month watching every World Cup match. But, we figure a lot of people are in the same boat, and maybe a few of you are looking for a place to watch the game. Lucky for you, there’s tons of non-sports places to watch, such as the Mohawk. Out of the ashes of two great bands, come two new great bands. And perhaps it wasn’t even ashes, but a change in direction, which has brought us A. Sinclair (frmly Frank Smith) and Otis the Destoryer (frmly the Couch). Both bands will be releasing EPs tonight over at the Mohawk, which is a definite reason to show your face. A. Sinclair are offering up their Pretty Girls EP, and Otis the Destroyer are offering us the Dark Arts EP. We consider both bands to be two of the top acts in town, though admittedly that list is growing and growing. Plus, because you have to have great openers, the bands have chosen Chasca and the Docs to open the night up. You should definitely stop by this evening…there isn’t a better option out there. The show starts at 10 inside, right after the Red Fang show.
The time is near folks. In fact, in less than 24 hours you’ll be able to get your hands on the brand new Pretty Girls EP from Austin’s A. Sinclair. We’ve been writing quite a bit about the group lately, as we’re really excited to see the increased output from the band, not to mention their growing maturity in songwriting. Today we bring you a brand new song, “Throwing Up on the Ground,” which features more twang than the previous two singles the band have released. It demonstrates the careful balance between the band’s influences and their ability to rock live. And, speaking of rocking, the band will be doing just that, live at the Mohawk this Thursday, celebrating the release of the brand new EP; they’ll be joined by Otis and the Destroyer, Chasca, and the Docs.

We’ve written about Austin’s Migrant Kids many a post, so we don’t really need to harp on the act much more, other than you’ll miss out on their set if you don’t stay through the night. But, what caught my eye on the line-up was BE Godfrey‘s EP release. I posted about one of his new tracks last week, and it’s definitely something that warrants your listening, both at the Mohawk, and at home. Where else could you pick it up but from the artist himself? They’ll also be joined by Austin’s Silver Ships opening the night up, so you’ve got a great set of mellow jams to enjoy all night long..perfect way to slide into the work week.
