Orcas Announce How To Color a Thousand Mistakes

Honestly, its been a hot minute since Benoit Pioulard has made it onto the ATH pages, but with the return with his collaborative Orcas project (working with Rafael Irisarri) after years away, has me revisiting past tunes. As the duo announce How to Color a Thousand Mistakes, they promise that their ambient work will move in a more pop-centric direction, which you can certainly hear just after the 2 minute mark. Up until that moment, you have the cavernous drift of ambiance and delicate vocals, but hitting upon the bubbling charms begins to flex the song into something that almost resembles a post-punk adjacent exploration (also featuring Simon Scott of Slowdive on drums). Give this one a go, and look for the new LP on July 19th via Morr Music.

Interesting Pop From Ms. John Soda

Andreas Staebler_2I’ve always been a fan of slightly weird or different sorts of pop music and this new track from German duo Ms. John Soda is right up my alley.  It’s electronic in nature I suppose with elements of great boy/girl duo Beach House, but with a brighter and almost sunny feel.  Check out interestingly titled “Hero Whale” below and let us know what you think.

Pick up new album Loom on October 2nd via Morr Music.

Mellow Number From Fenster

Screen-shot-2014-01-23-at-2.07.59-PM-1Here’s to hoping you’ll enjoy this mellow new number called “Mirrors” from Berlin based band Fenster.  It’s a beautifully chilling number that reminds me of band’s similar to Lost in the Trees.  Needless to say, it will take a bit of patience to get into, but I think everyone can find something to enjoy here.

New album, The Pink Caves, is due out March 4th on Morr Music.

New Music From Seabear

sea-bearIcelandic outfit Seabear are prepping a new album for release in March on Morr music.  The new LP will be called We Built a Fire and features this new single “Lion Face Boy”.  It features the soft style folk sound we’ve gotten used to after the band’s debut LP in ’07.  Enjoy.
