New Music from Sweet Baboo

Stephen Black’s Sweet Baboo work has been in and out of my music listening rotation since he first popped up on Moshi Moshi, and I’m really looking forward to the release of Wild Imagination. Here we have SB offering up a careful bit of pop music, dripping melodies atop synthesized beats that recall both warm weather and 80s movie soundtracks. It’s really about Black though, especially as you can see his vocal playfulness as he sings out the simple notes of “whoa whoa whoa” during the chorus. His new effort will hit on June 2nd, for all your adoring pop ears.

New Music from Martin Creed

Martin Creed is a pretty credible songwriter, winning the Turner Prize, and now he’s back with a collection of 18 songs titled Love to You, which is just now being released by Moshi Moshi Records.  He definitely owns a distinctive vocal, but I’m more interested in the craftsmanship that enabled the record to come together.  Every detail is intentional, every lyric placed perfectly, every note placed in exactly the right place, creating a collection of thoughtful songs that you’re not likely to find anywhere else.  This single is perhaps my favorite at the moment, but there’s other more upbeat tracks if that’s your bag too.  Enjoy some Martin Creed today.

New Music from the Wave Pictures

One of the acts I’ve really grown to love as of late is The Wave Pictures, who released the excellent Beer in the Breakers LP last year. Already the group has another album ready to turn around and release, again coming your way via the folks over at Moshi Moshi.  Said album, Little Black Cars, will be hitting the streets on April 2nd, but for now, they’ve also just released the single for Eskimo Kiss, which is a pretty sweet jam in itself.  There’s a little bit more of a punk swagger to the jagged high-stepping of this song–all good things in our book. Give this song a little try, and keep an eye out as the band makes its way stateside in the Spring.
