Friday Album Streams: Lunar Vacation, Kal Marks and More

Dropped the ball last week, and there were several notable releases hitting the streets, at least on my end (Dummy and Mythical Motors). Plus, there were some solid releases dropping this week we wanted to remind you of. This section just needs the streams and the links, so you can make up your own mind! Stream and buy the stuff below!

Last Week’s Jams (3.11 – 3.15)

For some reason or another, we were rather preoccupied with the Austin goings-on, so perhaps we didn’t cover as much as we might have liked. I’ll be circling back through this week to try and get as much of it up as I can. But, we did have some really solid jams…and a few premieres…or whatever you call it. I was definitely feeling a little electronically inclined, covering new stuff from Maria Chiara Argiro and Cong Josie. Got blown away by the new Lightheaded track, not to mention fawning over tunes from Kindsight and Mammoth Penguins. Oh, and speaking of premieres…we had a new Unwed Sailor and a live cut from The Wind-Ups. Check them below.

Mythical Motors Share Take a Trip

I missed the boat on the first single from the forthcoming Mythical Motors LP, but I couldn’t resist alerting you to the promise of Upside Down World. The tune below is the opening number, and its opening guitar lines were enough to pull me right into the tune; they have this power-pop brightness that seems to swear we’ll have a better tomorrow, in emotion alone. Matt Addison’s voice has this gentleness in its presentation that you can’t escape either, taking the early wistfulness and pushing it to the next level. If you’re looking to find a sunny future, might we suggest you grabbing Upside Down World; the LP drops on April 12th via Repeating Cloud.

Mythical Motors Offer Up New Single

There’s a massive catalog of music coming from Mythical Motors, though it feels like its super easy to indulge when the project releases a great new single, like “Replacement City.” When the guitars rode into the show here, there was this satisfying vibrancy, like I was playing in a ball pit as melody rained down. Then the vocals kick in, embracing this almost arena power rock vibe, though they hide in a bit of obscurity, always maintaining their earnestness. It all circles back, then the latter half rushes forward forcefully, almost hitting you in the face with those big old pop hooks. You definitely can’t go wrong with this jam today!

Split Cassette Coming from Mythical Motors and Antlered Auntlord

I love the concept of a split tape; it’s like a perfect sampler platter…little bit of this here, little bit of that there…and hopefully it’s all delicious. In the case of the Mythical Motors/Antlered Auntolord Split Tape, well, it’s all tasty to me. Mythical Motors is a relatively new band, to me, and they’re just ripping up these sunny pop tunes; this single below falls somewhere between the punch of GBV and the pop vibes of Superdrag (which is a compliment!). Antlered Auntlord, on the other hand, are always going to give you something that feels a touch more raucous and devil-may-care. Their tune below is a bit of noise, a sprinkle of driving punk, all built around a central melody that brings a smile to your face! If you dig, as you should, why not grab the tape from HHBTM today!

Album Premiere: Mythical Motors

Mythical Motors - Selections lo-resIt’s not a typical thing for us to premiere an entire album stream on our website, but when it’s full of quality like this Mythical Motors album, we’re down for whatever. So basically what we have here is a career spanning compilation of singles entitled Selections From the Psychics Museum which features 22 songs spanning the Chattanooga based bands entire career. With so many songs for you to dive into, it may seem overwhelming at first for those unacquainted with the band. I say to you, patience my friends, I’m sure everyone can find something to enjoy and take with them. After a few spins, “Full Breathing Costume”, is a favorite of mine. This one is for fans of bands like Guided by Voices, Times New Viking, or even a local band like The Midgetmen. Check it out below.

Fall Break Records will release a limited run of cassettes as a physical release on May 27th.
