Last Week’s Jams Today (8.8 – 8.12)

We cover a lot of tunes here, but in looking back at last week’s jams, there were so many hits that popped up on our pages. You wanna dance a little? Try the new Cool Sounds or the Dare? Looking for a little wayward jangle? Try on Old Moon or the Slow Summits! Maybe you just want classic pop? Well, check out those Alvvays and Elizabeth tracks! Wait, you need a reissue? Well, there’s great stuff coming out from the Variable Stars and Self Improvement! Plus, we had mellow jams from Old Fire and Kramies, to hit all the right notes. Just hit play and enjoy yourself while I get ready for the first day of school!

Playful Pop Tune From Nancy

Brighton based artist NANCY really hit the ATH pages a couple of years ago with the artful and quirky pop release of the EP, Happy Oddities. After the EP, NANCY also dropped a “mini-LP” last year, to much fanfare from most of the biggest music publications out there. While most have been focused on some of the bigger things going on in the music world today, I was a little giddy when I saw a new LP announcement from NANCY along with the drop of this new single “Judy”. It’s straight up just a near perfect indie pop song worthy of a whole bunch of repeat listens. Check it out below.

Blame Recordings will be releasing the official debut LP from NANCY, entitled English Teacher, on October 28th.

Nancy Shares Orange Yellow Orange

I didn’t realize there was so much hype around Nancy, but to an extent, I think there’s at least some reason to get a little buzzed here. Stylistically, this surely falls under the bedroom pop, with even Nancy claiming the song was written during lockdown. I think the bubbling little burst that shines through around the 1:20 marks is really nice, and perhaps playing that up a bit more would have won over tons of folks. Instead, the song pulls back, happy to kind of retreat into its own quiet solitude. This track will feature on Happy Oddities EP, which comes out on August 7th via B3SCI.

Fun Track From Nancy

If you’re looking for some fun new music on this bright and sunny Wednesday morning, might I suggest this new song called “Call Me on Your Telephone” from Brighton based artist Nancy. It features a garagey inspired take on pop music, and might invoke images of Franz Ferdinand with a more guitar driven focus. You can certainly find something to enjoy in the playful, and sometimes scuzzy, vibe.
