Bright New Single From Mazey Haze

Dutch artist Nadine Appledoorn came on my radar a year ago with her new musical project Mazey Haze and her tunes have been hitting my frequent streams on the regular. Today I am beyond happy to share with you her latest new tune entitled “The Weight of the Weekend”. When one gets the label “indie pop” sometimes it can be a convoluted and vague genre description, but for me, this is truly a perfectly done indie pop tune. It’s light while maintaining a level of brightness and drops in short moments of upbeat, rock sounds to keep this thing engaging and mesmerizing for its short 3.5 minutes. Stay tuned.

Lewsberg Drop In Your Hands LP

I had no idea we were getting a new Lewsberg LP until a little email popped up in ye old inbox, but man, this Friday just got infinitely better…for me anyways. If you’ve never listened to the Dutch group before, I suggest setting aside some time to spend with the band today…and might I add you can start off with 2020’s In This House. It’s early in the morning, and I’m just diving in here, so not sure which of the tracks will be my favorite, but I think those of you who are into bands like Smog or Low will surely find yourselves a comforting listen on this Friday. US fans can grab the In Your Hands from 12XU.

Feng Suave Share Show Me

Now that we’ve looked at last week’s tunes, I wanted to start off with this real slowly unfolding pop ballad from Dutch outfit, Feng Suave. The opening minute is almost like a lounge singer, crooning to his audience, slow and charming. But, just after the 1 minute mark, you get this nuanced build, texturing the song with these nice little string arrangements and tickling piano notes. Just don’t think they’re settling there, as the group continues to let the song build and swell, all the while holding tight to the track’s early charms. If you dig it, be sure to give a listen to their So Much for Gardening EP.

Bright New Single From Mazey Haze

Amsterdam based artist Nadine Appledoorn records and makes music under the creative moniker Mazey Haze. She has burst onto the scene this year with the announcement of a debut EP called Always Dancing coming on October 22nd which will feature this stunning new song “Headspin”. Appledoorn combine so many elements of bands I love like Alvvays, Camera Obscura, etc. but also adds in this sort of pop star vibe to give the tune her own, unique spin. I think you’ll be hearing a lot more from Mazey Haze in the future.

Jam New Mozes and the Firstborn

I still regularly play “Bloodsucker,” the 2014 hit from Mozes and the Firstborn; I’ve been waiting for the group to replicate the joy of that song…and today seems to be the day. The Netherlands-based act just delivered a power rocker that’s bound to have you singing the chorus as your car speeds down the road, wind at your back. Give me hooks and chugging chords any day and I’ll be stoked on it. Sometimes the simplicity of pop rock just does it for you; you turn it up, you rock out with a toothy grin and the rest of the world is right. Give a listen won’t you.

Hear Two New Tracks on New Mozes and the Firstborn EP

I’ve always been a fan of Mozes and the Firstborn; I found their debut filled with these really great hooks…and just enough rock to keep me interested. Late last year they had a single with Marianne/What Am I Worth, both good rockers…but now I finally get to hear the other tracks, which I have yet to see anywhere else. These tunes illustrate the softer side of the band, almost ballads. I just keep playing them, however, so that means they have to be good, right? I’ll let you decide, but go grab the Marianne EP andenjoy a few new hits!

Brooding Pop From Stillwave

StillwavePrior to right this minute I knew not one thing about Netherlands based pop group Stillwave, but I’m looking to change that starting now. Our introduction to the band is this awesome and unique new single “What Have You”. What we have here is a brooding sort of pop song full of darkness and some extremely heavy vocals unlike any other you’ve likely heard before. I think you’d be hard pressed to find this interesting and delightful take on pop music anywhere else. Stay tuned as a new EP is apparently coming soon.

Groovy Tune from St. Tropez

fuzzI have no idea what to really say about this single from St. Tropez, other than you’re going to love it…I hope. There’s this fuzzy riffage that opens the track, then sticks around to sort of propel the song forward energetically. But, in the vocals, there’s something, like a cross between BRMC and Brit-pop…maybe just a darkly tinged bit of indifference. The Dutch outfit got some love in the studio from Spring King, so you know people are taking note of their work already. This latest single just indicates that we’ve got more good things coming…hopefully more new tunes in 2016.
