Lake Announce Bucolic Gone LP

Having mostly been quiet since 2020, Lake aim to make a big splash with their return in 2025! Today they bring us a new single and the announcement of Bucolic Gone, a new long-player for Don Giovanni Records. Everything they accomplish in this 4 minute tune revolves around the perfect balance of space and the vocals. I love how the group seems to employ layer upon layer of texture, though in that, it also feels wide-open, like they could continue to fill their musical bucket with more sounds…and they do, splashing fuzz and riffs throughout in the distance. Still, it only succeeds because of the gentle nature of the voice, like a drifting feather that just hangs on the edges of the sun, reflected in both the song’s title and the visuals below. We’re sure to hear more from the group before the album drops this Spring.

Dean Wareham Announces That’s the Price of Loving Me

Just as I was sliding through my emails, I remembered that today is a day to celebrate, as Dean Wareham announces That’s the Price of Loving Me, his newest solo outing. This album’s production was handled by Kramer, which is the first time the two have worked together in over 30 years, at least in the recording capacity. Still, Dean’s approach is a far cry from the early days of Galaxie 500, taking on more of a psychedelic pop note this go round; the vocals almost feel like blossoming flowers, blooming behind the steady rock of the drums, all of it layered with depth by Gabe Noel’s weeping cello work. Carpark will release That’s the Price of Loving Me on March 28th.

Hamilton Leithauser Announces New Album

Look, the ATH crew has been at times accused of borderline obsession syndrome with Hamilton Leithauser both as a solo artist and as front man for The Walkmen. Did we track him down once backstage to buy him a beer? Maybe. Did I go all the way to Rhode Island for the first reunion show? Ummm yeah. Something about the music has always hit a personal note for this team. My doting aside, Hammy has been dropping hints of new music recently, which culminated in a new album announcement today along with this new single “Knockin’ Heart.” I cannot wait to hear more.

Hamilton’s new album is entitled This Side of the Island and will be out on March 7th. Pre-orders are live now.

Club 8 Release New Album

I had a sneaking suspicion that this was coming: Club 8 release A Year with Club 8 today! We’ve been here all along the way, watching the band drop catchy single after pop gem, much like their fellow Swedes Red Sleeping Beauty. Today, they drop their final installment by putting it all together. You’ll find energetic bouncers like “Free Falling” or “Something’s Wrong in My Head,” but you can also uncover some more pensive pieces like “Closer to You” or “Nervous at Heart,” both which carry a gentle smoky pop engagement that is absolutely delightful. You’ve hopefully been listening all along, but if not, be sure to get yourself into the joy of the world by listening to A Year with Club 8.

Frog Shares Christmas Tune

When Frog released their 2023 Grog LP, folks lined up to praise the band and their work, deservedly so. Now, they’ve teased a new album, but offered up a hold-over holiday tune to keep your ears warm during this Winter season. This tune has a take that’s not too similar to the traditional “Night Before Christmas” story, though told from the oddball perspective, which only makes sense hearing Frog as an outsider outfit. They continue to layer the song with twinkling piano notes, building it up with a snapping drum beat and these vocals that seem almost instrumental in their presence. A nice way to look forward to the New Year.

Stream Cistern’s New Standard EP

Over the last month or so, I’ve definitely been on board the Cistern hype train, perhaps even throwing the wood on the fire. Today, you can stream the entirety of New Standard, and in doing so, you’ll be filled with this angular punk energy that should carry some enthusiasm into your afternoon. The catchy enthusiasm of “Pendulum” reminds me of the Futureheads, stabbing guitar energy that makes your feet stomp on the club floors. For me, “Crisis” is one of my favorite jams of the year, and I keep cranking it up, much to the dismay of my 6th period class, who are trying to finalize their projects. File it somewhere between Ought and Omni, and most certainly under awesome!

Good Morning Announce Surprise LP

RayRay and I love Good Morning, and in fact, I even took the band to grab an Arma-delo the last time they were in Austin, so we’ve got to get behind the announcement of a surprise second LP from the group in 2024. It’s a meandering 8 minute pop rock track, embracing the title by just floating through the ether and coolly hitting your ears; it could even be considered easy listening, if you were into that sort of thing…which we are! Don’t be scared away by the length, as they fill that space with plenty of musicality and vocals, so it’s more like a classic Good Morning pop song, stretched for your benefit. The Accident will be out on November 29th.

Horsegirl Share 2468 Video + Announce New Album

This track and news will likely blow up in about ten minutes, so I just wanted to make sure we had it up. Horsegirl have been on a hot streak, and this new single is so playful and steadying, that you’re really going to find yourself stuck in this infectious loop…though I don’t think you’ll mind once you press play. Looks like they’re playing with syllables and such on their new LP, Phonetics On and On, which will be released by Matador Records on Valentine’s Day. This band rips and that’s really all you need to know.

Rosa Bordallo Shares I Feel Numb + Announces New LP

If Rosa Bordallo isn’t on your radar just yet, you might want to rectify that, especially after you listen to this brand new single from the indigenous native of Guam. Working in New York, she seems to have soaked up the influences, brimming with this balance of elegant bedroom pop and more avant songwriting, allowing her work to sound bold yet distinctive in its presentation. Striking string arrangements add nuanced shades here, with a rolling drum beat adding just enough snap to breathe life into the tune’s movement. It’s a pretty special opening statement, hinting that when Isidro rolls around, we’re in for a wonderful treat; it drops on January 31st.

Premiere: Sunnsetter Give Us One More Banger

It seems to be a year where myself and Ontario based songwriter Andrew McLeod are in perfect alignment with the musical vibes we need for comfort at the moment. McLeod has been dropping hit after hit this year under his recording project Sunnsetter, and right before the release date on Friday, we have been treated to another banger. This one has a touch more of an overall electronic feeling to it with a droning beat and a swirling, distorted guitar to balance everything out. Seriously, if you haven’t yet made a pre-order for the new album, Heaven Hang Over Me, go ahead and do it now before the release date tomorrow. Paper Bag Records has a variety of fancy ordering options.
