Tin-ear Share Fling Straw Man

Tin-ear is a band we’ve consistently been raving about for the last month or so; they’ve got one last single to share with us before we get to hear the entirety of Cadastral Maps. I just love how it feels cacophonous from the get-go, swirling noise just ringing in my ears, though not in an abrasive fashion. There’s actually something soothing in the vocal work, a calm in the middle of this great musical storm, perhaps signaling the band’s allegiance to a mixture of twee and avant-emo. Please stick around to the very end of it all, as a glorious burst of emphatic joy awaits you. Cadastral Maps is out on Friday via Gentle Reminder Records.

Oceans Share New Single, High

The lockdown, while still looming in our thoughts, brought about a lot of creativity for artists, and it seems to have spun Australia’s Oceans in a slightly new direction. Now operating as a full band, there’s a bit of promise on the horizon, and I mean that in more of a metaphorical sense. You can still feel the darkened edges that were present on the Come So Far EP, but there’s an electricity that seems to be dashing through on this brand new single (the first as a full band). For starters, the time stamp has it at just over 2 minutes, meaning the band have to apply a frantic nature to it; you can hear that in the drum’s pounding away and the stabbing guitar lines that knife their way in and out. Still, that dreamy vocal seems to rise and crest, just as the guitars hit with more enthusiasm, blasting you with a cool breeze of delightful melody. YNYS Share Nothing the Sea Doesn’t Know

It’s funny that the email I got about YNYS mentions T. Rex in a nod to the string work on the band’s latest single, as I was just thinking there was something about Bolan lurking in the shadows of this song. There’s this bit of bravado and swagger to the performance of Dylan Hughes here, but don’t let that deceive you as this is every bit a big sweeping pop tune. From the arrangements to the backing melodies, every note seems intent upon carrying you away with huge emotions, albeit with a little bit of that effortless cool. Guess I’m just a big old sucker for pop tunes; the band release their self-titled album on November 4th via Libertino.

Winter Share Good Video (featuring Sasami)

The closer we get to the release of Winter‘s new LP, the more I’m getting anxious to hear it from start to finish. Today, we get another glimpse at Samira’s songwriting, this time in a steady fashion that really drives home the melodic nature. It’s almost like a spiritual move, a mantra of being good, however that plays at. Sasami‘s vocals just beckon you, like a siren begging you to crash upon the shores of this glorious slowcore masterpiece. With all the folks having a hand in the new release, from Sasami to Hatchie, you know we’re in for one hell of a ride; What Kind of Blue Are You is out October 14th via Bar/None Records.

KT Laine Shares Dumpster Fire

When I first heard the latest single from KT Laine I was really drawn to her voice; it has this sort of soaring bravado like Angel Olsen, though with a bit more sharpness to it. But, the more I spin it, the more that guitar line just feels like it fits naturally into my everyday jamming sessions. It’s like a heavy jangle of sorts, giving the song this swinging swagger that successfully sends shivers your way. Still, Laine’s confidence, even when penning self-deprecating lines, is precisely why you stick around until the very end. A rad tune, and a relatively new artist to keep on your radar.

Rad New from Dandy Boy Records

One of our favorite labels, Dandy Boy Records, has a bunch of great stuff going on, so we wanted to be sure that you knew about all the greatness, otherwise, what’s the point?

For starters, there’s this rad video from the latest Sob Stories LP, Fair Shakes, which came out in the Spring. You’ll love the great stop-amination work of Elyse Schrock, but then you’ll keep coming back time and time again for the huge hooks in the chorus!

Then you get a couple of new tunes from the 1981, and add in some previous jams to make up the bands newest Polaroids EP (available on cassette). I was already loved with the amazing “Nelson’s Camera,” but the two new songs have the band working in some new territory that definitely has my ears on where the band will go next.

Finally, the label has announced a joint venture with Discontinuous Invention to release a new EP from Aluminum. We’ve got the brand new single here, and it certainly makes the allusion towards the band’s affection for early Creation Records, particularly where the song erupts into this beautiful noise in spite of the melodious nature of the vocals; let this song give your ears the best sort of mindfuck ever! The Windowpane EP is out on October 7th.

The Boys with Perpetual Nervousness Share Isolation (ft. Mary Lou Lord)

One of my favorite pop acts, The Boys with Perpetual Nervousness will be dropping their latest record, The Third Wave Of, next week, so why not seal the promotion cycle with one beautiful touch. Today, the band release a double single, which is an electric and acoustic recording of “Isolation,” which features Mary Lou Lord on vocals. The band are already masters of toasty melodies, then you double down by throwing Lord into the backing vocals (or lead vocals on the acoustic version), and you’re pretty much guaranteed to make pop fans swoon. I’ve got both versions below, but you can only find the acoustic version as a Bandcamp bonus track; the Third Wave Of drops next week via Bobo Integral.

Another Jam From Automan

Back in May we were treated to a remarkable introduction to London based group Automan with the release of their single “Are You Happy Without Me”. After impressing us at the start of summer, the dudes are again leaving an impression on us with this new track called “Dreamland”. In the end, it’s a really simple sort of indie rock song with a subtle pop inspiration, but often the simplest tracks can result in some of the most memorable tunes. As a three piece the band somehow sound completely fleshed out and full of smooth drum beats, slick bass, and bright guitar solos. Nice finish to the day.

 

Enchanting New Single From Paul Thomas Saunders

Brighton based artist Paul Thomas Saunders really made a name for himself back in 2014 with the release of his debut album Beautiful Desolation, but despite a few singles in 2017, he took a complete hiatus from music. Today fans of Saunders were treated to an unlikely new single and the announcement of his sophomore album, just eight years in the making. When you are dormant for so long, it’s going to take something hauntingly beautiful like this new single “Bloodlust” to really re-announce yourself into the music world. What an incredible way to come back. Welcome back sir.

Submotile Shares Foreshadowing Single

Dublin’s Submotile aren’t quite content with rehashing the past or touching up on fads regarding the shoegaze genre. Instead, they seem to have taken notes, then said “fuck it” and crafted their own vibe, which is both powerful and refreshing. Starting off running, you get this propulsive rhythm pounding the beat with cascading guitars working in the background; it starts to evolve into a really heavy post-rock soundscape vibe, which makes the drop in all the more special. Noise swirling, vocals come in, melodic and cool, crafted in such a way that it almost feels like another layer gets built into the complex fabric. Personally, the back and forth between the noisier elements and pop hooks is what just tugs at me, so I’m all in for the band’s new LP. One Final Summit Before the Fall will be out on October 21st via modern legends Shelflife Records.
