Austin Spotlight: She Sir Release New Track

shesirWe’ve championed She Sir for years, and this year has seen the band release several great tracks in anticipation of their forthcoming LP.  The album is titled Go Guitars, and we’ve got their third single to offer you today. It begins a touch slow, then the drums provide a proficient bounce to push the song into a more beautiful state.  It’s clear by this number that good things are in store as we approach 2014, when the album will see a release from the respected Shelflife Records.  Just enjoy the fact that you’re around to listen to such a great tune today; be thankful.

Drifting Dream from White Birds

whitebirdsI’ve been keeping a close eye on White Birds, and admittedly, I never quite know what I’m going to get.  Sometimes the music created is so intimate, other times it’s interestingly abstract, but this new track that just popped up yesterday is too mesmerizing to miss.  I could just listen to the vocals over and over, soaring, quietly.  There’s a tribal quality in the percussion, which makes creates a really dense ethereal haunt throughout.  I’m not sure what or if this will be released, just think you should enjoy such a ridiculously good song; I’d be responsible for ruining your day if I didn’t let you hear it!

Welcome Return of the Lodger

the_lodgerNow, I’m not sure how I missed this track popping up a few weeks ago, but I’m so glad that I stumbled back upon the Lodger.  They’ve been one of my favorites acts over the last five years, and I was sad, thinking they’d seemingly taken a permanent hiatus.  But, this new jangle pop deliciousness is precisely why I’ve found the band so endearing; it’s while I continue to shout their name even if I’m one the only ones listening.  The guitars are crisp and the vocals are absolutely spot on in this new single.  Plus, it’s just a blistering pace, clocking in with two minutes of the best pop you’ll hear today. Go on, dig it.

More New Music from Jeremy Jay

JeremyJayLondonTreesI’ve got some unfortunate new folks.  Jeremy Jay‘s new LP, Abandoned Apartments, has now been pushed to January 24th, rather than the initially reported November due date.  But, that means we have more time to enjoy the tasty new single he’s putting out today.  Again, there’s a shimmering synth mood that runs the track, while Jeremy’s softened voice rest gently atop.  It’s funny, I think if you sped the track up, you’d have a nice little club hit, but I appreciate the sensitive approach Jay takes instead.  Just another reason for us all to look forward to 2014.

The History of Apple Pie Return

historyWhen you’ve got it, you’ve got it, as evidenced by the recent works of The History of Apple Pie.  After releasing an album earlier this year, the group is already back with a brand new single that will be released via 7″.  I love the feel of the track itself, harkening back the sensual days of alternative girl groups in the 90s.  Sure, the music isn’t quite as forceful as some of those acts, but there’s this quality in the vocals that will surely make it appealing to all those that found their musical way in the post grunge era. The single will be available on October 14th.

New Jam from Those Darlins

thosedarlinsAs far as I can tell, Those Darlins are going to have another sneaky good record on their hands.  This new single from their upcoming Blur the Line LP still holds onto the group’s affinity for female sexuality, though their music has definitely progressed lately.  There’s more negative space at work here, allowing for the guitars to cut in and out, often swirling loudly into your speakers.  There’s also a bit of subtlety to what their pushing nowadays, which coincides with that polished sound they’ve acquired.  You can get your hands on the new record when it hits on October 1st.

New Hit from Geoffrey O’Connor of Crayon Fields

My adoration with Geoffrey O’Connor admittedly began with his work with geoffCrayon Fields, one of our favorite exports from Australia.  But, that being said, I’ve also really enjoyed the work he’s done solo, so it comes as no surprise that this new single is making my day.  His warm voice is placed over heavy electronic beats, alongside a female counterpart for the chorus.  Personally, I like the way his voice almost approaches a soft whisper; it’s one of the things that makes his music so interesting and enjoyable.  This is the first single that follows up his solo debut, Vanity is Forever (a must have). It’ll be released worldwide via Chapter Music.

Another Hit from Darren Sylvester

darrenFeel like we’re in need of something smooth as we head into the weekend, which is why this new single from Darren Sylvester is perfectly fitting.  While I think the musical element definitely falls in line with modern music trends, I like the way that Sylvester delivers his vocals. There’s a slight imperfection to his voice, which, when contrasted with the vocals, makes the song something that stands out from the ordinary.  You can find this track on his upcoming album, Off By Heart, which will hit the street on October 4th courtesy of the kindest people in the biz over at Chapter Music.

Austin Spotlight: Berkshire Hounds

berkshireHere’s a new piece of catchy rock n’ roll that just made it into our mailbox today: Berkshire Hounds.  I can definitely see how they’ve got a rhythmic groove to the work their crafting, backed with crunchy guitar sounds that erupt in line with the vocals.  Why does this song standout to my ears? It’s the usage of the saxophone, adding an element to this blend of indie rock that we’re not typically used to hearing.  The group’s still in the early phases of their existence, but you this single should hold you over until the band release their next full-length later on this fall.

New Single from Yawn

yawnWhile working on their follow up to the much-lauded Open Season, Yawn have opted to release this great new track; this may or may not appear on the group’s next album. That doesn’t even matter, as this track seems perfectly fitting for closing out the summer months.  It’s got this light shimmer to it, playfully bouncing along, while extra layers are orchestrated in the background.  While the song tends to build, the band pulls back on the reins just a tad, only to skip all the way to the end.  If this song doesn’t lift your spirits, then I’ve got nothing for you.  Such a hit.
