Don’t Get Lemon Announce Hyper Hollow Heaven

I know we’re all downtrodden, at least if I’m to believe everyone’s personal feeds, so thumping beats with masterful hooks are just what the doctor ordered going into 2022 full speed, and thus, I give you Don’t Get Lemon. The Austin three-piece are crafting this danceable brand of pop that’s built on layered textures that build and build throughout their new single. You can easily hear the pulsing beat here, rushing the song through your speakers; little electronic flourishes also make their way out, but it’s the atmospheric wash mixed with the heavy vocals that has me intoxicated. If you can hear the promise in this tune, then perhaps we can convince you that your money will be well spent by grabbing Hyper Hollow Heaven this coming March!

Love, Burns Announces It Should Have Been Tomorrow

It seems only fitting that we begin covering music in the new year by covering our first release of 2022; It Should Have Been Tomorrow by Love, Burns. The band is the solo project of Phil Sutton, who plays in Pale Lights (among other acts like Cinema Red and Blue and Comet Gain!), but the album features help from Kyle Forester, Hampus Ohland-Frolund, and Gary Olson…so it’s kind of a big deal! We’re releasing it in conjunction with Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten, Calico Cat Records and Jigsaw…all great labels run by admirable persons, so we’re fortunate to be part of this release (we’ll be handling the cassette version)! But, we can’t really convince you to pick it up without a little taste now can we? Here’s a few tunes from the album, which will be out on February 4th; buy it from us HERE.

Plus, Phil recently recorded a wonderful cover of the Wake’s “Crush the Flowers” with Suzanne Nienaber for Soleado, a Tribute to Siesta Records, organized by Fadeawayradiate. You can hear that below:

Sad Eyed Beatniks Share The Snows of Success

While we’ve mostly shut down, we’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t immediately share the latest track from K. Linn’s Sad Eyed Beatniks project. I love how the song moves from this home-recording vibe, crackling through your speakers to the split switch to a cleaner production; it immediately builds in the track’s melodic movement, without losing that intimate sentiment. The heaviness of the strum throughout matches up with Linn’s voice, softly toying with imbalance, though each element hits just the right spot, consistently elevating the charm. Super in love with what’s at play here; Claudia’s Ethereal Weaver will be out on January 28th via Meritorio Records.

Yot Club Drop Deer Island

We’re about to ride off into the holidays with a two week break on our part, so while I love writing about jams, a little respite is always nice. That’s why I love listening to this Yot Club tune; it has this naturally bouncing guitar line; it just makes you feel like there’s a whole lot of promise on the horizon. That sharp nature is a little bit in contrast to the way the vocals have this sort of sedate longing, which only furthers the concept of looking beyond what today holds. This track features on the Santolina EP, which is scheduled to drop on January 14th.

Verandan Share Night Single

With a few singles under their belt in 2021, Finnish outfit Verandan have one final tune to close out the year, appearing on a compilation for Spanish label Kocliko. This tune doesn’t stray too far from the band’s sound, creating this natural softness that leaves tons of open space for reflective notes; it does feel like its something Phil Collins would have had his hands in crafting. Ville’s voice is just magical here, and I can’t get enough of each little note as it curls around the dense musical underbelly. The group are working on a new album for next year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for that news!

Nicfit Share Deviation Video

Looks like we’re spending some time on the Japanese tip today, getting you into Nicfit and their latest single. The band operate with this sound that feels like you’ve taken the best bits of Fugazi and like-minded post-hardcore outfits, then mixed it up with modern twinges of psychedelia and pop music. At times the track can feel really heavy, particularly as it smashes to a close, though it can also feel fun and off-kilter immediately following. The track keeps you guessing, which makes for the best listening longevity. They’ll be releasing their Fuse LP in January via Upset the Rhythm.

New Single from A. Sinclair

We’ve been covering Aaron Sinclair’s music since he fronted Frank Smith back in the day, but he’s been knocking around Austin as A. Sinclair for some time, as well as moonlighting as a drummer in various rad acts about town. This last week he released this wonderful new single, and I’ve really just been relishing his vocal performance here; a nice little polished feel, though still every bit as emotive as he’s always been. I’m also fond of the way that guitar line sort of bends around the track too. Feel like this is a great way to kick off a Thursday, so enjoy the latest from Austin.

Ryan Pollie Shares Don’t Lie Single

Friday, you’ll be able to get your hands on Ryan Pollie‘s new LP, Stars, dropping courtesy of Forged Artifacts/Mapache; but, before you get there, why not tease you with one final single to lead you with a trail of joy. There’s this beautiful fragility to the tune, carried with a sense of uncertainty in the lyrical content. Every time I press play, I feel like this is the journey I’d be on if I’d grown up an emo kid with a penchant for covering Grateful Dead songs; there’s something about both sides of that coin that seem to reside in this single…and frankly, I think that’s stunning, so I can’t stop pressing play here. Don’t forget the LP drops Friday.

End Scene Share Bittersweet Spell

When you send me an email name-dropping the Go-Betweens and early REM, you can bet I’m going to listen, and likely going to cover it. Such was the case when Sydney’s End Scene sent me their latest single, “Bittersweet Spell.” This tune has great ringing guitar lines, but they’re delivered with the vocals that seem weighed down with emotion a la Michael Stipe; this is the sort of tune you’d probably say was penned by Robert Forster if we’re sticking to the band’s musical nods. One of my favorite things here is that the tune has this sort of quiet magic; it’s the sort you play time and time again without even knowing it, gradually swooning more and more with each listen. If you, like me, love it, then be sure to check out the band’s forthcoming LP, All My Ghosts, which drops this Friday.

Pink Milk Share New Single, I Lose My Mind

Having just recently released their album, Ultraviolet, Sweden’s Pink Milk return with this hazy bit of dreamy indulgence. Every musical note seems to shimmer, hanging in the air like some sort of foggy mist descending upon your bedroom as you play this track through your headphones. There’s something angelic and haunting in the vocals, like the faintest echoes from lives lived in the past; they seem to always be just out of reach, creating this sort of disorienting feeling that I assume ties into the title of the tune. So, if you’re into altering your mood this Monday morning, I suppose you can’t wrong immersing yourself into this experience. And be sure to also check on Ultraviolet.
