Dark Electro Pop from Silent Wave

silentwaveLooking over today’s earlier posts, feel like I went heavy on guitar-pop and the like, so I wanted to spend the afternoon with Silent Wave. The band, in my mind, sounds like a more accessible version of the Knife…at least in regards to the tonal touch on the vocals. However, they differ in that they seem to evolve in a manner that allows them to crest at just the right moments to maximize emotional power for the audience. As of now, this is just a stand alone single, but I’ll keep you posted as more info comes our way.

New One From Field Mouse

imageWe here at ATH have been long time fans of indie pop band Field Mouse and the fun tunes they create. With that in mind, you’ll understand when we share all of their music as it comes our way. Today we are treated to this new single from the group entitled “The Mirror”. As always, the track is yet another pop powerhouse to add to the bands already impressive arsenal. Enjoy.

New album Episodic will hit stores on August 5th via Topshelf Records.

Savoy Motel Should Be Your New Favorite Thing

savoyWe knew this was coming (insider trader info), but we’re glad the whole world gets to finally be part of what’s sure to be the next big thing, Savoy Motel. The Nashville group should please the fans of old school R&B/boogie, whilst still showing the new school hipsters that there’s enough noise and creativity (and swagger) to make the music important to them. It’s a sound that seems timeless and refreshing; there’s nothing like it on the current landscape, and there might not have been anything like it in the past, yet you’ll feel like you’re in the know. The group are working with What’s Your Rupture now, so expect news on an album soon. Oh, and it stars Jeffrey Novak, who we’ve covered in varying ways here on the site…ya dig?

Pleased to Meet You: Sonic Visions

Remember last week when the Stone Roses released a brand new song, and then you thought to yourself “my five year old niece can write these lyrics.” Well, then take a listen to Sonic Visions, the newest band to join the Soliti Roster over in Finland. Their brand new video offers a dark perspective on the band, but we should focus on the fact that they definitely seem a band looking back at late 80s/early 90s UK sounds, while adding a modern bit of flare. I’ve played this track multiple times, and it definitely fills the void left floating out next week. This is their first piece for the label, but expect more from them in 2016.

Bratty Pop from St. Tropez

sttropezWhen this song first came on, I thought St. Tropez were going to take us in the direction of mundane indie rock. But, fast forward down the line and the group’s totally in it to trick you. They spin the song into a bratty riot of good times, dreaming of life “in St. Tropez.” It’s one of those tracks that surprises you, giving you a quick in the ass once the chorus takes hold of you. They’ll be releasing their debut album this August, but for now they’re just going to keep teasing you with a bunch of rad songs.

Dreamy New Single From Nothing

unnamed-161-640x421Man this new music from Philly’s own Nothing has been getting tons of spins around my house lately. Their RSD single release of “ACD” is this perfect emo style throwback sound similar to old bands like Copeland, Explosions in the Sky, or even some Clarity era Jimmy Eat World. For some of you readers, that may turn you off immediately, but we ATH kids love that shit. So while Nathan is in party mode, I’m feeling the feels at my desk listening to this sweet new single “The Dead Are Dumb”. Give me 10 more just like it please.

Nothing will release Tired of Tomorrow on May 13th via Relapse (pre-order here).

Relaxed Pop from The Vryll Society

vryll_burgundyportrait-150Up until now, The Vryll Society has mostly dwelled in the modern psychedelic arena, but they take a slight turn with their newest single “La Jetee.” Mike Ellis’ delicate vocals bring perfect pop attributes into play; they were present in the band’s earlier work, though things are a touch different on this one. His vocals have more space thanks to the band’s work behind him, leaving plenty of room for the melodies to hit the right notes. Still, the group has room to maneuver into their spiritual psych in the latter half of the track. They’re working with Deltasonic at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for a release soon!

Crepes Take On Old Tones with New Single

crepesYou’d think it would be easy to throw Crepes in the mix with the rest of the Melbourne acts, but like all great music scenes, they’re probably far more vibrant and varying than the coverage…which is why I like Crepes. They seem to take on a spin of an older style of pop music, looking back at some of the early psychedelic acts that were taking pop construction into newer directions. I love the feeling that the vocals are just falling from the heavens, dripping into the track itself. This is our first taste of new music from the act, but you should also travel back in time to listen to their Cold Summers EP.

Nice Bit of Pop From The Hazy Seas

12795335_951492121602660_8656031474738553721_nYeah so you know the story by now right? I know very little about (insert band name here), but I love them after hearing their music today. Sound familiar? Well I’m yet again discovering new things today with a new single called “Evergreen” from Michigan based pop group The Hazy Seas. A lot is going on in the song but all blends beautifully with jangly guitars, some hushed vocals, and a somewhat frantic pace all coming together nicely. After winning my ears today, I’ll be sure to share more from The Hazy Seas once I get the info.

Lindstrom Is Back

lindyDon’t mind me folks, just sitting here jamming out on my lunch break, hoping none of my students walk in while I’m shaking it to this new Lindstrom. I love the fact that I can turn it up, bob my head, then suddenly there’s a subtle change in the song. It’s one of the finer touches of electronic tunes that I’ve recently rediscovered, so I have no problem pumping this track as it goes from sterile to blossoming with radiant atmospheric touches. This is our first listen to music from his forthcoming EP, which is slated for a release later in the year via Smalltown Supersound.
