Sun Voyager Full Steam Ahead

sunnyJust because they released an EP a few weeks ago doesn’t mean the boys in Sun Voyager can’t come right back with another single for your ears. The three-piece have again caught my ear with another slice of solid psych-influenced garage rock, the likes of Ty Segall.  This song slowly trudges along, capturing your ear whilst operating at a slow pace.  You’ll find yourself drifting in and out with this song, which is the perfect way to spend the midweek, if you’re asking me.  No words yet on a new album or EP, but I reckon at this pace, it’s just around the corner.

Premiere New Jeremy Jay Tune

JeremyJayLondonTreesWe at ATH have long admired the work of Jeremy Jay, from his earliest days on K Records to his newest efforts with his full band Dystopian Violet.  He’s a great songwriter, so we’re always glad to share something with you if it pertains to his writing chops.  Recently he tossed this new single our way, which will hopefully be coming along with a new full length.  In it you’ll hopefully hear some added production value, like string and keyboard touches.  It adds depth to his already solid sound; I’m personally in love with the steady propulsion of the drum beat here.  Take a listen, and we’ll keep you posted on upcoming releases as they come our way.

New Tigercats Should Be Tasty

kittiesWhat? You can’t get enough of mellow indiepop goodness? Me either, which is why I’m really anticipating the new LP from Tigercats. The LP is titled Mysteries, and if you go off this single, it sounds like they’ll be doing their best to infuse a great deal of instrumentation into their style; this track has a nice little flute/piccolo added.  It’s also enjoyable because of the interplay between male and female vocal parts; that’s the sort of thing I’ll always stand behind when it’s done right. Look for the LP on February 2nd via Fortuna Pop.

A New Tune from Boomgates

boomgates2A few years ago there was this brief explosion of Aussie tunes that received a lot of love on our continent, especially from this site.  Bands like Twerps, Bitch Prefect, Bored Nothing, Pop Singles and more made waves, but I was particular to Boomgates.  I’ve kept an eye on the group for some time, so I’m glad to see that they’ll soon be releasing a new effort via Bedroom Suck Records.  There’s no exact word on when this new album will be released, but it popped up on a compilation that was recently released by the label.  It’s somewhere in between jangling twangling Aussie pop and just your down-home traditional indie pop.  It’s a special Friday delight.

You Want More from Lazyeyes? You Got It!

lazeWasn’t it just last week I was writing about Lazyeyes? Well, I’m back again with the next single from the band.  It’s another track you can turn up as you drive down the highway at night, wind behind your back.  I’m really digging the way the vocals were recorded for this track; it’s got this distant feeling, like an old friend is singing at me from a late night dream.  The directness of the band’s songwriting really shines through, making it inevitable that you’ll find yourself hooked on the group’s sound.  Look for their New Year EP rather soon.

Get a LIFE

LIFEOkay. I really meant to throw the word digital single in there; I promise.  LIFE is a UK act that’s bracing for their invasion of the US, this week releasing their first single Stateside this week.  I’m going to post both the songs from the single, as I think they embrace two sides of a young band.  One, offers an up beat number that recalls that one good song from The Vaccines; it’s immediately catchy with a huge sound for pop fans.  The flip side of the coin is a grittier track that has more of a guitar pop feel; it’s probably more ambitious in construction than the other tune, so it’s my pick of the two, though I’m enjoying both.  Get ready to get a LIFE.

Austin Spotlight: New Single from Genuine Leather

genwineThe last we heard from Genuine Leather was the group’s second album, Losers, but they’re back today with a crisp bit of guitar pop to help make your day.  If, like me, you love a good bit of guitar work, then this is going to be the perfect song for you.  They’re definitely  nostalgically leaning riffs, with a bit of crunch working to aid the hook in the vocal chorus.  There’s no word yet as to whether this single is a one-off or if it’s prepping for the group’s next release…expect us to keep you updated on that front in the near future.

Wicked Hit from Sunflower Bean

sunSunflower Bean is a fairly new act if one was to go by the information passed our way, but I’m already interested to see what direction they’re heading.  This single has two souls, though they both seem to be haunted by different directions.  You’ll get the female fronted post-rock, with this entrancing yelp at the end of the syllables.  Then they switch it into more of a psychedelic realm, with a different twist on the music; these moments have more of a brooding fuzz to them, rather than the emphatic yelping of it’s counterpart. It’ll be interesting to see what comes next; there’s lots of room for them to grow.

New Single and Video From The Rich Hands

374375_590472457642909_1132971821_nSan Antonio based The Rich Hands came onto our radar just about a year ago and we’ve done our best to support them ever since.  Today the band have two bits of news for their fan base that we’re excited to share with you guys.  The first is a new video for their latest single called “I Get By” which features the guys out on the road, playing shows, and having a general good time of it.  Of course that garage rock sound with some fun pop elements thrown in is still there and is as great as ever.  Once you’ve watched that a few times, check out some upcoming tour dates for the band so you crazy kids can see them on the road.  Follow the jump for both video and tour dates.

The Allah Las Return with New Tunes

allahI was in love with the first release from Allah-Las; it combined elements of California sun with psychedelic shades, all the while holding on to some solid hooks. It looks like the band is about to take a very similar approach, though this newest tune seems to move further into the past, musically.  There’s some swagger remaining, but this song displays more of a devotion to the delivery of the vocals, which serve as the song’s key focus.  You can grab this on the band’s upcoming 7″, and it’s also likely to appear on their Worship the Sun LP, which is slated for a fall release.
