The Red Pinks and Purples Share New EP

Having released The Town That Cursed Your Name earlier this year, The Red Pinks and Purples seem to have been uploading EP after EP, some new stuff, some rarities and some covers. I’m pretty sure the tracks from Murder, Oral Sex and Cigarettes are new, but to be honest, Glenn’s so prolific, you never know what’s new or what’s old but new again. What I do know, is that the RPPs Bandcamp is one of the many reasons I love the format, and one of the thing I know a lot of folks fear with the passing of the torch to whatever entity is in charge now. You can’t really go wrong with anything Donaldson pens, and there’s just something so continuously charming that you’re blessed if you have the time to invest in listening from start to finish here.

Welcome Back Twin Tigers

twintigers

Man it seems like it’s been way too long since we last heard from Athens based noise rockers Twin Tigers.  Since the release of their incredible 2010 album Grey Waves, it seems like the band has been extremely quiet while recording their follow up.  Well the wait is over and the band is sharing a brand new song today called “Racecar”.  It has the same noise/fuzz element to it, but with an added touch of new wave beats thrown in that we have never really seen from the band.  Interesting and delightful all at the same time.

New album Death Wish will be available on April 9th via Old Flame Records.

New Tunes from Idaho

Admittedly, a great deal of my musical “findings” stem from one Jack Rabid, the head honcho at The Big Takeover magazine (hands down the best music mag around).  Reading the recent issue, I stumbled across a review for a band I had all but forgotten about, Idaho.  They put out a slew of record from 92-05, but I hadn’t heard anything from them until recently, and that’s why I’m here today to share news that the band will be offering up You Were a Dick next week.  This is a pretty perfect track to kick off your Tuesday; it’s nice and quiet and emotional. Enjoy, and if you dig it, go back and check out the back catalog.

New Music from Braid

I was fortunate enough to tour alongside Bob Nanna and his posse during the Hey Mercedes days, and while I look back at that, the one thing I remember about those guys were how incredibly down to earth and real they were, despite the fact that they were 3/4 of Braid, which was one of my favorites.  So, I’m happy to see that Braid’s original lineup has reformed, or rather, reconvened, in order to give us some new tunes.  Polyvinyl will do us the honor of releasing the new EP, titled Closer to Closed, but says there are no plans for a full-length, as of yet.  This first listen is a lot less discordant and angular, but the maturity demonstrates that they still have the passion, and obviously the songwriting chops to keep on trucking. I hope you love this track as much as I do.
