Cloudland Canyon Share Internet Dreams Video

We are just over a month out from the release of the self-titled Cloudland Canyon LP, and seeing as its Friday and you could use a little bit of pulsating pop music, we figured we’d let you try this one on for size. Instantly, the thump of the bass and those rolling synth beats should have you tapping your toes, even discreetly. When I went through the first few listens, I loved the gradually building tension, unleashed perfectly with a quick little drop that accompanies bright vocals and some “oh oh ohs” that get you hooked. Song craftsman Kip Uhlhorn built a lot of the soundscapes on this new LP with AI, so he’s still pushing himself and what one can accomplish in electronic music, still 20 years on! Cloudland Canyon drops on Juluy 21st via Medical Records.

La Securite Share Hot Topic Video

Contrary to popular thought, the latest track from Montreal’s La Securite is not actually about your revered mall outlet. Instead, it’s a proper piece meant to score the incredible dance routine that has been edited down to feature in this film version. From the moment you’re pressing play, the dancers and the song are pulsing, claiming the space as their very own, both physical and musical. Eliane snakes around ringing guitar notes and synthetic stabs, delivering a sharp indifference to the world around the dancers and the singer. Pulsating punk elements mixed with dancefloor ready grooves make Stay Safe something to keep on your radar; it drops tomorrow via Mothland.

New Devendra Banhart Drops

I know my wife and I both have a soft spot for Devendra Banhart; we used to spend hours just cleaning our house (pre-kids) soaking in the airy notes from his warbled voice. Now he has a new LP on the way, and well, it’s going to take a few folks back, which I totally respect. I mean, how many more times can Banhart write in the same place? This go round, it looks like he’s teamed up with the glorious powers of Cate Le Bon to build the tracks for Flying Wig. Our first listen has him living in this post-punk meets 80s radio-croon, almost as if he’s channeling some Bowie bits; it’s an interesting left turn that I didn’t expect, so I’m actually here for it, as the kids say. Flying Wig is out September 22nd via Mexican Summer.

Sprints Share New Single and Video

Clearly I’ve been on a more upbeat and rocking kick lately and this new single “Adore Adore Adore” from Dublin based artist Sprints will surely add another song to my summer rockers playlist. After a brief video intro, the song kicks off into a whirlwind of 2 and a half minutes of sheer energy, screaming vocals and tons of in your face bravado. I am here for every ounce of it.

“Adore Adore Adore” is out now via Berlin based City Slang Records.

Th Da Freak Shares Serie A

If you travel back in time, you might be able to get the secret Th Da Freak album that was briefly available on Bandcamp. But, it was pulled and then reshuffled and redone, thus where we are today with a fresh single and video from the French songwriter. I’ve always appreciated the songwriting, and there’s something here that’s really refreshing. In a sense, the video and song both have this sort of intimacy that recalls bedroom pop, but there’s this driving hook that courses through the track, elevating the song just enough to have this hook-laden pop rocker. If you dig it, you better grab Indie Rock from Flippin Freaks before it disappears again; it’s out June 16th!

Balmorhea Share Video for Range

When Balmorhea drop a single, I’ve come to expect a stunning visual component to accompany said release, as the band cares a great deal about their conceptual vision. This go round, the visuals were created in partnership with Odd.Company, and it appears as if you have two pieces overlapping one another; at times, they seem to meld and shimmer and mold into one vision, only to move and shift in movement with the song, switching what your eyes see. Now musically, it says a lot that that band’s brevity on this single can still captivate, but whether that’s due to the visual or the tender tones of the song, I’m not sure. I am sure, however, that this piece will fit delicately into the greater vision the band have for their new album, Pendant World, out June 16th via Deutsche Grammophon.

Grrrl Gang Sign to Trapped Animal Records

What a big day for Indonesian outfit Grrrl Gang, announcing their signing to Trapped Animal Records, with support from KRS and Big Romantic for distribution world-wide. Thumping drums rip through your speakers as soon as the volume gets up, with the classic play of quiteloudquiet from the vocals to hit you right in the face. I love how the backing vocals build into a full group formation, soothing the ears right as the song draws to a close. A bit of a growl, a bit of sweetness, and a whole lot of promise; Grrrl Gang will drop Spunky! this September, but you can pre-order HERE.

Genesis Owusu Announces Struggler LP

I will admit that I was hooked the first time I heard Genesis Owusu; musically he reminded me of a pop version of Dizzee Rascal, offering quick rhymes with a super distinctive voice and sprinkle of pop. Then you throw in all the visual video work done for the tracks, like the one featured below, and it feels like a throwback to those over-the-top hip-hop videos of the early 90s where every setting seemed like it cost a million dollars just for the costumes. So, this new tune…it’s a driving tune with that thumping push that makes Genesis style attractive; I will be seeking out some variation on his LP, but for now, I’ll take this banger, and wait until Struggler hits on August 18th via Awal/Ourness to give a final verdict.

Snooper Share Fitness Video

Having landed on Pitchfork’s Most Anticipate Summer Albums List, Snooper are ready to take on the world, and what better way than include a little “Fitness” in their routine. This is one of the band’s earliest songs, appearing on an early 7″ from 2021, but it’s been touched up a bit for their forthcoming Super Snooper LP. This video feels exactly like what we witnessed at SXSW: pros, humor and furious riffs ringing through the PA. Everything is at breakneck speed; it’s like they’re challenging you to keep pace…and if not, then “lift weights.” Fast, furious, fun…Super Snooper is out on July 14th via Third Man Records.

Melenas Announce Ahora New LP

I am an (at times) over-enthusiastic Melenas fan. So much so, that on their last album cycle I think called them the Melons for the entirety of a whole post. Today, they bring us news of the follow up to Dias Raros; it’s slated to be released this fall via Trouble in Mind Records. Aside from the video just coming off as really cool and stunning (if you’re taking in the scenery), but this song has me so exited; it reminds me of No Shouts No Calls-era Electrelane, drawing on motorik beats and funky disco propulsion to push the narrative…in Spanish no less! It all feels so futuristic and hopeful, and I can’t turn the damn thing off! You can grab the Ahora on September 29th!
