I am really hoping that the genius and joy of Being Dead shines through and emerges into the greater musical realm outside of Austin; they feel like they’ve been our best band for years, and finally it seems everyone else is catching on to their act. Generally speaking, the band operate with lots of live humor and constant switches mid-tune. But, here, you get a little bit of their wit by way of their performance in the video, although the song is much more traditional in a sense. It’s got this natural warmth from Juli’s vocal performance, settling into the song once the galloping percussive element is peeled away. When it meets up with Cody’s voice, they build in this creamy psychedelia that pervades the whole tune. It’s time for you to be listening to Being Dead; they drop When Horses Would Run on July 14th via Bayonet Records. (Plus there are like five or so copies of their debut 7″ from ATH Records HERE.)

Heavenly Share New Video for C is the Heavenly Option

This last Friday the world was fortunate to have another reason to celebrate Heavenly, as the band reissued Le Jardin de Heavenly via Rob and Amelia’s Skep Wax Records. But, they also wanted to celebrate by gathering a who’s-who of celebrity indiepop gods to feature in a playful new video; it also features some old Super 8 footage of the band to accompany the new clip. Like the song, you’ll find that this video is nothing short of charming, giving you yet another reason to love the group and their work. Speaking of their work, have you grabbed the reissue? Jack Moody Shares Stay II Video

We started out this morning with a bit of a ghostly number, letting your mind drift toward the weekend. But, now that we’re there, I’ve got this new tune from Jack Moody to up the ante a bit, put some energy right into those dancing shoes, in case you’ve got them on already. Moody’s music recalls the work of Black Marble, working in that post-punk realm of darkened pop, where the melodies have you shuffling your fee just enough to keep things interesting; the vocals keep the dark motif, tossing out these coated deep tones that align with the weight of the genre. Just another jam for your Friday.

La Securite Share Serpent Video

Felt like during the middle of the week we need to switch up our shoes and get a little midweek groove on, and what better way than the subtle hooks of Montreal’s La Securite. Where it would be easy to add the pace and really push folks onto the dancefloor, this bunch pull back, letting the rhythmic pulse guide the listener while the vocals flirt with that dreamy-disco intoxication. Lurking inside is this pseudo-chorus that feels like a riot-girl call to arms, adding in just enough grit to keep those rockist snobs on the hook. Look for Stay Safe on June 16th via Mothland.

Mason Lowe Shares Plastered Video

I was in major need of a crunchy bit of rock n’ roll, so when this new track from Mason Lowe rolled in the old inbox, I was excited. It begins with those exact riffs, and perhaps a little bit stoner-rock stomp built in as the track begins to take off. But, just as I expected the hairs to keep getting blown out, the tune began to unfold into something entirely different, hitting with this momentary bit of blissed out pop. It’s like those classic tootsie roll pops, with the treat lurking in the center, so see how many bites it takes you to get to that sweet sweet center. If you’re digging, Mason will be releasing Morning People on June 23rd via Killroom Records.

RVG Share Midnight Sun Video

Are you tired of me talking about the new RVG record? Well, too bad! There’s a brand new single out today, which really encompasses the vibe that courses through the whole of the record. When the song drops in, you get this slightly jangling post-punk riff; it sets up the song’s underbelly, but that’s not really where the success of the tune lives. For me, Romy’s voice takes the track to this near arena-rock anthemic level; they push the chorus to these levels that drip with passion and pain, which is perhaps one of the reasons I’m so inclined to fall in love with their work. It’s like the whole of their new LP, Brain Worms, has just leveled up in your favorite video game; they’re at the top of the game, which you’ll hear when the album hits on June 2nd via Fire Records.

Dream Wife Drop Orbit Video

If at any point in the last few years you’ve come down for SXSW, odds are one of your friends or even you were caught falling in love with London’s Dream Wife. They’ve been one of the hottest acts as show-goers marvel at Rakel’s vocal work and stage presence, with Bella and Alice holding their own too. Now we’ve got “Orbit,” which has this ripping guitar line that absolutely hooks you into the groove put down by the bobbing bass grooves. You’re going to love the playful chorus too, with some rapid lines delivered from Rakel before a few big old howls echo about your brain. They drop Social Lubrication on June 9th via Lucky Number.

Mononegatives Drop Television Funeral

Writing a song with the idea that “now everything can be recorded and it’s usually nothing we want to remember” seems like a pretty heavy notion. But, at least when Mononegatives are banging it out they somehow manage to make it all feel like a bit of fun. At times they feel like Wire, then they feel like they’re calling on the Spits too, buzzing guitars and this claustrophobia where everything shakes out into this defiant noisy masterpiece best listened to on full blast. 7ebra Release Done with the Day Video

When I caught 7ebra during SXSW part of their charm was the dynamic between the twins; I hadn’t really heard anything aside from the lead single, so the performance was more impacting. But, with a new single here, I’m starting to realize what my subconscious already knew. When you press play below, the song seems to begin fairly simply, a vocal and a strum pushing on; there are some slight backing vocals too. Just as you start to settle in, the duo begin to add in their little textural flourishes like the notes from the keys hiding just beneath. A steadied beat enters too, and the whole song begins to swell and wrap around you, as if you’re an insect caught in a web, with the band playing the role of the spider, wrapping you in their silky pop. 87 and the Toys Share Shopping Mall Video

I love a good upbeat number, particularly when the band is drawing inspiration from the art-punk scene of the 80s, like what’s at play in the vibe from 87 and the Toys. On this single, the band squirm right into this writhing punk pogo, jittering around the room as they belt out distinctive syllables. The playfulness of the band comes right through that screen too, with a really great performance from drummer Hana bringing in that huge set of pipes to really sell the band’s sound. They’ll be releasing their latest effort The Smile Room on March 31st, and with that release, rumor has it that they might be moving to Austin too, so hope you local readers keep an eye out.
