Peel Dream Magazine Offer Central Park West Video

As we’ve gone through the album cycle for the forthcoming Peel Dream Magazine LP, I’ve admittedly been on board, though knowing that those early singles were treading water in the band’s past. But, that stops now, with this airy new single that shifts the sound into something a little bit more ornate, almost theatrical in nature. Honestly, and perhaps I’m a bit jaded, but it feels like something one would claim as Sufjan adjacent, even down to the instrumentation and accompaniment…and while that might seem like a knock, there’s a brightness that turns in at 2:15 where the track gets an energetic lift to tether it to the earlier singles out there. Rose Main Reading Room is out on September 4th via Topshelf Records.

Ece Era Preps Debut LP + Shares You Know What Goes Down

Woke up a little bit foggy this morning, and in that found solace in the escapism that is the latest tune from Ece Era. The song and video are all about escapism, but in a more philosophical manner, encouraging us to put aside the societal constraints forced upon us, turning towards an escape and the word “no.” All of it rides upon this thick beat that manages to propel the track going forward, though you’ll notice that it begins to sink behind as the shimmering wash of atmosphere creeps into focus. The debut album will be dropping this Fall from 2MR, so we’ll keep you posted there.

Chime School Share the End Video

This is not a post about vegan chili, though if you want to read a great recipe from Chime School‘s Andy, plus read our interview from last week, you can jump HERE. What is this about then, you ask? Well, it’s the third and final single from the forthcoming LP, and a continuance of growth we’ve heard in the band’s sound. Those Californian jangles are crisp and cyclical, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit of nostalgia for the Lucksmiths; the vocals have this soothing quality, sinking you right into your favorite lounge chair as you drift into the happiest sleep around. Feels as if this one would be the perfect accompaniment to your favorite cheesy rom-edy, as everyone’s left smiling in the end. Be sure to get your copy of The Boy Who Ran the Paisley Hotel, dropping on August 23rd via Slumberland Records.

New Video from Gouge Away

Felt like I overdosed a bit on pop this morning, so circling back to crank this Gouge Away tune all the way to 11. There’s definitely part of this tune that feels very current, particularly in the way the growl of the tune keeps coming back, never letting you breath as it pummels your ear over and over again. But, there’s something kind of late 90s post-hardcore about the songwriting too; it reminds. me of some of those early Pretty Girls Make Graves tunes where you’re struck by the abrasiveness, only to realize later that there are these huge hooks in the craft too. Once you invest in this tune, you can feel your body propelled to respond to the thundering momentum. If you dig, it’s on their latest LP, Deep Sage, a reminder of that powerhouse album that hit via Deathwish Inc.

Being Dead Share Van Goes Video

Returning with another batch of tunes after last year’s excellent When Horses Would Run, Being Dead still seem to be growing in confidence and promise. This tune kicks off with this driving rhythmic push instantly caffeinating your listen; they work to indulge their whimsical side by interlocking the vocalists, trading hooks back and forth with one another, all of it to the song’s snappy beat. And, just as you think they’re pushing you towards the top of the musical hill, they take a wild left turn and change directions, forcing you to keep pace. This makes their musical craft interesting, but also allows for a lot of that playfulness to carry over into their live sets. EELS will be released on September 27th via Bayonet Records.

Dummy Share Nine Clean Nails

After Mandatory Enjoyment put Dummy on everyone’s radar (they’re EPs were on our radar way early!), the band took time to really break their own mold on the newest LP, Free Energy. As you listen to “Nine Clean Nails,” you’ll notice that the guitars hang off stage to a degree, letting that snapping rhythmic pulse crest and fall before your ears. It’s not until you hit the 1:35 mark where they begin to really tie all the pieces together, letting the guitars ring out sharply, washing the tune in a mixture of noise and bubbling pop. The beat work throughout is really special, snapping in the right spots, and rolling into those bright guitar riffs really builds towards a climactic release that arrives just as the tune draws to a close. Dummy are not ones to repeat themselves, so look for lots of great plot twists when Free Energy drops via Trouble in Mind on September 6th.

Plus/Minus Share Contempt Video

If you haven’t delved into Further Afield just yet, might we encourage you to indulge in the entirety of Plus/Minus (+/-) latest opus. While I think the whole of the record is chock-full of incredible moments, “Contempt” certainly feels like something built for the indie masses. It’s got an insatiable groove that hits you almost instantly, then cut up with these jagged guitar licks that rip and recede, all of it merely textured to provide an emotionally charged vocal. Honestly, every moment within this tune fits absolutely perfectly, whether its the gentle vocals or the sharp edged guitar, it all just collides into one perfect pop moment we recommend you take on by grabbing it HERE.

Holy Wire Share The Ending of An Age Video

Those of you that like to indulge in deep club bangers will certainly want to turn your ears towards this new tune from Austin’s Holy Wire. It sets up with this budding bass line, then it just drops right into this club-friendly groove that allows Alain to croon atop, offering up lyrics that capture a sense of looking back. This fits perfectly with the theme of the video, with the band telling us they “wanted a sense of voyeurism, like you’re watching the world from inside, and a sense of disconnect. Its sort of a culmination of the themes of retrospection and being removed from things across the whole album.” I love the way it feels as if you’re the voyeur, watching the performance from the side yourself; don’t forget the band’s new album, The Ending of An Age pops up today!

Constant Follower Share Turn Around For Me Video

Not exactly sure when and how I stumbled upon Stephen McAll’s Constant Follower, but I’ve been a pretty avid supporter of his craft, especially as he’s taken the intricate early days and continued to flesh them out into these sprawling folk pop opuses. Below we’ve got a brand new tune from the band, recorded here in Austin oddly enough. Listening through the tune, I still marvel at how the songwriting and production have grown over the years, yet there’s still this sincerity that you don’t find in a lot of place. And, Dan Duszynski’s production work allow the song to swell to the edges, though never flowing over, masterfully capturing the pure sentiment of McAll’s songwriting. And, as everything Constant Follower does carries great personal weight for the music, they pour that into the art as well, as we see with this animated video from Tsumugi Yagi. Check out the Bandcamp for another single paired with the below tune!

Blushing Share Seafoam Video

We’re really excited for Blushing and their new album, Sugarcoat, as we’ve long been in the band’s corner cheering their successes. They’ve got a brand new video out today, and it’s one that shows the group flirting with a little bit of the band’s range, sonically speaking. Sure, you can hear the guitars encircling overhead, building on their classic dreamy textural repertoire, yet as that washes through, I was drawn to the vocal work on this chorus; it even encourages the guitars to stretch a hint too, taking on almost more of a darkened pop goth feel. That vibe gets furthered around the 2 minute mark with an almost spoken monologue whispering through. Sugarcoat is going to rule, and it’s out on May 3rd via Kanine.
