ACL Spotlight: Early Bird Specials

When taking the first look at the ACL Schedule for each weekend, I tend to first see the conflicts in headliners. Luckily, we are fairly conflict free this year, we’ll get into that more soon enough. How about we take a look at a few of the artists put in the early spots? The cool morning grass, the wide expanses to roam and the vendors still relaxed before the dude-bro crush all add up to a child-like wonderment with the scale of the empty festival giving you the this all-for-me feeling. This year’s ATH Approved Early Bird Artists will create the soundtrack for your barefoot dance party.

Austin Spotlight: New Crunchy Track from Not In The Face

Not In The FaceAustin’s Not In The Face has been making quite a name for themselves for the last few years, melting faces with their brash rock n’ roll and outrageous live shows.  They’re wrapping up work on a brand new EP, and they’ve let us share one of these new jams with you all.  Now that the band has moved up from a duo to a tight-knit four piece, their sound is huge, as witnessed in this track.  The vocals have the classic rock swagger, but the music just sounds ready built for arenas–in a good sense.  This is definitely a track that’s going to burst some ear drums, so keep an eye out for a great rock show near you; the band has dates in Ft. Worth, Austin and Houston in early August.

Show Review: A Night @ Holy Mountain

We wanted to put more coverage towards the locals this year and our friend Glen Brown was going to be at the Red Bull Sound Select show at Holy Mountain earlier this week. He offered up some thoughts and shots, so we were like “yeah, do that” and he was like “OK, I will” and we were like “that’s gnarly”. So we have a little love for Gentlemen Rogues, The Sour Notes, Not In The Face and Ume.

Click through for Glen’s notes and plenty of pics. I should have gone. You should have gone. We should have gone.

New Track from Not in the Face

It’s weird, Austin’s not really known for having a lot of duos.  But, one duo that has recently come to our attention has been Not in the Face.  This Austin act is scheduled to release their album, Bikini, on June 7th via Electric Factory Records.  This first single does have a little bit of a Bruce hint to it, but Jonathan Terrell’s vocals seem to have the feeling of a more hardened Pete Yorn.  Yea, it’s just good old fashioned rock n’ roll with chugging guitars, banging drums and some solid hooks. You can catch the band on June 10th in Austin at 501 Studios (formerly the ND) for their CD release.
