Last Week’s Jams (12.5 – 12.9)

If your one of the seven people that hit up our site regularly (thanks mom!), then you might notice a title change. Nothing big, but just dropped a word because I was tired of pretending to be too clever. I’m not. Alas, we are still out here covering as much music as we have time for, and still trying to figure out how to incorporate the TMZ style drama that makes the cool sites so popular. So, for me, last week had some highlights I was pretty stoked upon; I got to hear solid returns from Lust for Youth and Jackie Mendoza, not to mention another brilliant electropop goodie from Das Kope. We got the announcement of new Julian Never, Galore and Blue Lawyer LPs, which should make everyone in the Bay Area proud. Plus there’s a great show preview/review from J.Wags on Golden Dawn Arkestra, so be sure to check out his work!

Gotta Check Out Notbrian

New York City based artist Brian Desousa and his project known as notbrian came onto our radar towards the end of summer with the release of The No EP, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting new music ever since. Well today he has a new tune for us called “Death of a Salesman” and it’s really solidifying this young artist as one to watch this year and next. It’s rad the way he shows a sort of very slight hip-hop or R&B inspiration and melds it with some lo-fi, yet jangly indie pop sounds. Perfectly unique vibe we are always on the lookout for. Stay tuned for more!

Last Week’s Jams, Today (8.1 – 8.5)

Back to the grind! I’m back at work, getting read to teach the kids and what not! But, looking back at last week, we covered a lot of rad territory I think that’s worthy of you easing into your work week, or just your day. I was stoked to hear Emma Kupa popping up on the latest track from Let’s Whisper, a band she’s joined recently. RayRay dropped new tunes from Sunfruits and Pale Blue Eyes, as well as threw some love towards the new Mall Walker EP. I know there was a lot of love and buzz on the new Peel Dream Magazine and Winter tunes, but personally, the track I couldn’t stop playing was the Enola jam inclued. Anyways, enjoy.

Notbrian Drops The No

Brian Desousa, aka Notbrian, just dropped The No EP, and it’s the perfect vibe to open up your Wednesday morning. His EP has this sort of tropical beach vibe, though channeled through a bit of a lo-fi pop lens; I think there’s certainly a bit of relaxation that soaks into your skin if you sit back and let the vibes wash over you. The tune below’s the EP closer, and it perfectly allows you to sort of ride off into the horizon completely free, mentally. So, sit back and take a nice deep breath in, then let yourself go.
