New Music from 808s and Greatest Hits

You’d expect with our modern awareness of the 808s that we’d get some over-worked drum loops from a project like 808s and Greatest Hits, but instead Skube Burnell is just going to bring you seductive pop songs. He’s going to work around mellow melodies and some angular guitar stabs, slowly sucking you into his vision of pop music. His subject matter here seems to approach the concept of packing your bags and heading out on a new adventure, something I hope most people can appreciate in their lives. Give in to these vibes, and you won’t look back. I’ll keep you posted on more news as it comes my way.

Chilled Pop from Ferla

Melbourne’s Ferla has had his music described as ‘low rent disco,’ and while I understand that sentiment, I think pop fans will surely find that there’s nothing ‘low rent’ about it. This song features Ferla’s suave vocal performance, emphasized by emphatic synth stabs in the background; it creates a relaxed vibe that one might enjoy in a dimly lit establishment of cool. This new jam features on his Guilt Pop/Stay Posi double EP, which is going to be released on May 26th by Our Golden Friend. Chill out here.

New Music from Poppongene

The weather chilled us a bit this week, relatively speaking, but as we continue to get warmer, I have a feeling that this Poppongene tune is going to get a lot of plays. It’s a song that creeps along, as singer Sophie mentions in line notes, sort of playfully bounding into your ears. Pacing on this track is so relaxed that you’re likely to need a chair to sit in as the pop warmth washes over you. It’s okay, you can give into it; let it come as it may. Probably one of my favorite pop hits this week. Be on the lookout for a full EP coming in late 2017 from Our Golden Friend.

Body Type Release B-Side

You’re probably sitting around with a sense of melancholy, and with that, tunes often help heal, however superficial that is. This new single from Body Type is currently helping me here…there’s a vulnerability in the vocal performance accompanied by a brooding, yet beautiful, progression. As the song unfolds, you’re captured, either by the uplifting monosyllabic chants from behind, or by the general sense of calm that washes over you. The band release their new Ludlow/264 7″ via Our Golden Friend this month; you can grab it over HERE.
