New Music from Secret Shine

It seems strange to me that there were all these incredible bands rocking around the British Isles long ago, yet they hardly got recognition.  Somehow, shoegaze music returned to the fold, and with it, many of these great bands.  Such is the case with Secret Shine, one of the bands from the great Sarah Records catalog.  The group has returned, and will release The Beginning and the End on December 25th.  If you’ve been loving groups like Pains of Being Pure at Heart, or others that border on shoegaze/dream pop territory, then this will be the perfect fit for your collection.  This single is warm, hazy, but overall, absolutely beautiful. Get down with the past, as its the present now.

New Tunes from 800Beloved

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard something like this come out of Michigan, but I know its no fluke, as 800Beloved released a solid debut titled Bouquet almost a year ago.  They’re back now, with their new album, Everything Purple, and it’s full of simple dream pop.  This tune will surely remind you of Pains of Being Pure at Heart, but just take a bit of that jangle guitar, smooth it out, and clear up the vocals just a touch.  If you ask me, it makes for a pretty incredible sound.  You can stream the new album HERE.

New Music From Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

Winners of our top album spot last year Pains of Being Pure at Heart are wasting no time and returning this year with a 7″ single.  The vinyl release will hit stores June 8th via Slumberland and features this tasty new song “Say No to Love”.  As usual, we love the brit-pop sound they bring along with a lil different guitar sound reminiscent of 80s era Cure.  Keep it comin’ guys.

FT5: Things to Do While Listening to Music

If you find yourself here, odds are that you’re probably a huge music fan, which means that music is going to play a predominant role in your life.  I surveyed many friends, and mostly talked to myself, trying to figure out what the majority of people are doing when they decide to jam out.  Of course, seeing as I’m the writer, I had to put my own personal touch on this, and thus the ranking of said practices while listening to music.

Black Tambourine Anthology Coming Soon!

Black+Tambourine+BT3If you haven’t gotten to know Black Tambourine, as very few did, then you’re lucky this time around, as Slumberland Records (the one who brought you lots of goodies like Pains of Being Pure at Heart) will be releasing an anthology of the band on March 30th.   BTambourine only existed for a few short years, but this new anthology will have four new songs (two originals, two covers) for your ears.  Just another thing to be excited about in 2010.

2009 Top 50 Albums

bestof2009cover_albums

Creating a Top 50 Albums list is never easy.  You have to battle with what you think the world believes, and what you truly believe in your heart, to be solid jams.  We have even more trouble because we have to three writers, all who have different ideas, and we have to make those ideas fit into a neat box.  Well, we got it done, and honestly, our criteria was based on two things: how great we thought the album was, artistically speaking, and how long we listened to it without getting bored.  That’s it. It’s fool proof; you might not like it, but it’s our list, so here it is… Read more

FT50: Songs of 2009

bestof2009cover_songsWe have to start this list off with a disclaimer.  We have three writers, all with different tastes, so the list should reflect that a little bit.  Also, these are our opinions, and by no means, are they meant to be seen as an “end all be all” to the question of what were the best songs of 2009.  That being said, we like our list quite a bit.  Sure, it’s got some expected numbers at the top, but the rest of the list is genius.  We’ve got some of the songs streaming for you, and the rest take you straight to youtube.  Follow the jump for full list.

New Tunes from The Raveonettes

raveAs the new album In and Out of Control by The Raveonettes draws closer to its October 6th release date, more and more tracks begin to hit the Internet.  “Last Dance,” hitting today is surely one of the highlights for what is shaping up to be a great album.  I’ll admit, I’ve been a half-hearted fan for awhile, but after hearing the clever-pop goodness here, reminiscent of a female fronted Pains of Being Pure at Heart, I’m sincerely stoked.
