ATX Spotlight: Star Parks

12717670_447276908797074_8975241183673572550_nWhile we all know that Austin is one of the best places to find new up-and-comers in the realm of indie music, it’s nice when you come across a band that really solidifies this notion. Today, that band is Star Parks, who make dream pop with americanainfluences that will melt your heart. The band is about to release their album,Don’t Dwell, this Friday, but before then, you should get acquainted with the band’s sweet sound with “Loose Ends.” There’s definitely a Dr. Dog-vibe going on here, but I’m liking the way the band really builds into the sound, and the vocals compel the track to its various levels. It’s the kind of song the makes you want to get out of your chair and dance around the room, which you’ll be hard pressed not to do, especially when those horns hit late in the track. Take a listen and then preorder their pretty blue record fromPaper Trail Records.

ATX Spotlight: Star Parks Release Video

Through their changes and different paths, I’ve loved the band’s sound, which is one of the many reasons I’m super interested in Austin’s Star Parks. They call to mind several acts, but their acoustic version of “Theoretical Girls” in this video definitely calls to mind the harmonies that hit the right notes, a la Wilco. You can hear the album version HERE, which has a bit more filled in musical accompaniment…namely some beautiful string/horn arrangements. All in all, this is a band to keep an eye on at the moment. They’ll be releasing their debut, Don’t Dwell, on May 13thvia Paper Trail Records.

Please Chill in the Cloud

zenThis week has been really trying, for no real reason, so I need something to “call me down,” which is oddly mentioned in the first minute of this new Cloud single.  Imagine Animal Collective actually working to create some real music, something that’s less laptop-laden.  There is a loop, and that’s definitely got my head spinning; is that the Harp you hear when you go to Heaven?  But, I’m not sure how the live set would look, as the band is primarily the work of Tyler Taormina…so maybe more loops than I wanted.  Anyways, he’s got me hooked with this single, and its part of his album, Zen Summer, which comes out via Paper Trail Records.
