UVTV Offer Pale Blue Island Video

Those of you looking for a step-by-step repeat of Always Something might be in for a bit of a surprise when UVTV drop The Optimistic Wrench, and perhaps no single stands out in that approach more than “Pale Blue Island.” Early PR had the group adopting a 60s lounge effect, and you can certainly see/hear those elements in the latest video; the visual representation plays with that, setting the band up in lounge attire against a stark white backdrop. Sonically, they’re slowing things ways down, almost to a crawl, but it works brilliantly. Rose Vastola enters with her voice, set atop a dominant wash of synths and thumping drums; she steals the show in the beginning, waiting for the rest of the band to catch up and build layer upon layer. Each second that goes by the group seem to be laying down new musical bricks, until it comes across as a fully formed masterpiece of heavy pop. The Optimistic Wrench is out October 11th via Papercup Music and No Non-Fiction.

UV-TV Return with the Optimistic Wrench

After a few years away, Brooklyn’s UV-TV have returned to the scene with a fresh collection of songs titled the Optimistic Wrench. They’ve always flirted with nostalgia, particularly by utilizing Rose’s dynamic vocal range, and here, they go even further back to the hey-day of Athens in the early 80s, which loosely ties to the way they came about some of the songs on the new LP; they utilized an Omnichord for build progressions, making them, like the Athens sound, wholly original here. It’s a sound tethered to post-punk in a sense, but moving beyond as they employ their own little percussive touches and jagged lines to bring it into the now. I know a lot of folks are excited for this one! The Optimistic Wrench hits on October 11th via Papercup Music and No Non-Fiction.

Dreamy New Dead Leaf Echo

Man, this song is definitely a stunner. Clearly I’ve enjoyed previous Dead Leaf Echo tunes, as we all should, but this one really ups the ante. Usually the group surround their songs with this blossoming wall of noise, but here you find that peeled back, however slightly, to reveal a tight rhythm section and guitars that seemingly circle around the vocals. They fill in some extra textural notes via synth work and distortion as the song progresses, but I’m still grinning with the immediate charm this number offers. Their new LP, Beyond.Desire, will be released this Friday via PaperCup Music.

Brand New Dead Leaf Echo

So much great news this week, musically speaking. News just dropped this week that Dead Leaf Echo will be releasing a brand new LP, Beyond.Desire. Upon pressing play, the walls of atmospherics and distorted guitars begin to surround your brain, just as the vocals seemingly roll along with the drum beat…more spoken then sung. As is the band’s specialty, they lunge into a heavy moment of shoegaze exploration as the vocals claim “I built this temple for you.” It’s just what you expect, and I expect it to be damn good; it drops on October 13th via PaperCup Music.

Noisey New Pop Number From Dead Leaf Echo

As if I wasn’t already excited enough for Brooklyn based Dead Leaf Echo to be heading into town for SXSW, I now have this new single to grow my anticipation. As usual, these guys bring a noisy, shoegaze pop sound worthy ofall the current greats in the genre. Not surprising when each band member has a history of greatness in bands like Wax Idols, My Bloody Valentine, No Joy, etc. Get ready.

Dead Leaf Echo will release a new EP entitled Strawberry Skin on March 31st via Papercup Music.

Nice Psych Rock From Raccoon Fighter

unnamed (9)Queens based Raccoon Fighter came on my radar a few years ago and since then I’ve been intrigued by their ability to craft a brand of psych rock with blues and garage rock overtones. Fans like me will be pleased to hear that the band has plans to release a new EP entitled Hover Craft on August 26th via Papercup Music. As always, the announcement comes with a new single and this one, “LVLR”, is sure to perk up your ear drums today. Once again the band has taken psych rock and added their own flair with hints of old school alternative rock and blues.

The Teen Age Pay Homage in New Video

unnamed (11)Brooklyn based band The Teen Age has always been a sort of throwback style band offering up hits similar to The Strokes or The Ramones. Embracing their sound and image, the boys have released this new video for one of their most recent singles “Backwards”. The video is essentially a shot for shot remake of a scene from the classic 1979 film Rock n Roll High School starring The Ramones. A killer song now has a video to go with it. Don’t forget to pick up The Teen Age’s latest EP Bad Seed now on Papercup Music.

New Jam From Tennis System

unnamed (19)I’ve talked about Tennis System several times on this here website and I’ve always enjoyed their ever evolving sound. Today this new single called “Here We Go” might just be the most impressive piece of material I’ve heard from the band since their earlier beginnings. I’m really digging the break down of the chorus here with the lead guitar wail and perfectly driving drum hits. It’s a hit.

Tennis System will release this track as a new single out on Friday via Papercup Music. A new full length is coming sometime later this summer. Oh and stay tuned as the band will be in town for SXSW.

Enjoy This New Weekender Tune

1443555926601Man things have been crazy busy in the real world over here and I have really been failing to bring any sweet jams of my own over the last couple of weeks.  As I begin to settle into some time off, I’ll be looking to share as many tunes as I can find starting now!  This one is from Philly based group Weekender who we’ve shared with you guys prior to this post.  Their new tune is “Floaty Feeling, Blue” which can be accurately described by the title of the song itself.  It’s for fans of Tame Impala who might want a more breezy and bright element thrown in.

Weekender will release their new EP Floaty Feeling, Blue on January 15th via PaperCup Music.
