Way Interested in Nap Eyes

nappyApparently Nap Eyes is a band that’s slipped beyond everyone’s awareness, at least here in the United States.  The first reason the band caught my eye is that it features members of Monomyth and Each Other…two bands I’ve heard of and adored.  Then there’s this song; it’s fucking great.  It’s got this steady pace to it, as if the song was created simply to back the spoken word.  It’s like a modern twist on the music that nerds fell in love with…see fans of The Feelies and They Might Be Giants.  The group will re-release their hit Whine of the Mystic on July 10th via Paradise of Bachelors and You’ve Changed Records.

Soft Ballad from The Weather Station

weatherThe tunes today have been pretty amped up, for the most part, so I was lucky to run across this really warm ballad from The Weather Station, which is the project of Toronto’s Tamara Lindeman. I really the sound of the guitar on this tune; it’s light, but there’s this whimsical touch to it, reinforced by the extra musical flourish that occurs around the 1.5 minute mark.  It doesn’t hurt that the instrumentation is the perfect playscape for Lindeman’s voice either.  She’ll be releasing her album, Loyalty, on Paradise of Bachelors on May 12th.

Rolling Good Times from Promised Land Sound

plsI’ve quite enjoyed the tunes I’ve gotten recently from Promised Land Sound, the Nashville quartet who’ve quickly been making waves in their hometown as well as across the nation.  Their sound reminds me of the gritty country garage rock that comes from bands like Natural Child, though I think the production quality on these tunes is superior.  The guitars have a nice polish that cleans up the sound, yet it still maintains both the grit and the spirit of what I think the band is trying to accomplish. Their debut self-titled debut will be out on September 24th via Paradise of Bachelors.

Promised Land Sound Debut New Single

PLS4_webPromised Land Sound is one of the latest bands to break out of Nashville, and while those before them have had a heavier edge (Pujol for ejemplo), these guys seem to sound exactly like what I always imagined would hail from their cit.  Guitars slide and there’s a blend of americana lurking in it all, but emotional pull in this song is what really sold me on the group.  They’ve completed work on their self-titled debut, which will see a September 24th release date on Paradise of Bachelors.  Dig the sound of the heart of America.
