Promising Pop Number From Fiasco

Sometimes it can be very refreshing to find a new band when you’ve felt like music has been pretty blah over the last week or so. Such is the case with this new single called “b(l)ack” from Paris based artist Fiasco. What starts as a clear bedroom pop number eventually builds into an almost R&B, hip hop track with hot beats and a sick bass line. It’s a true jam and I hope you’ll agree.

As I’m now hooked on the music, I’ll be sure to keep you posted as news some in on the band.

New Hit from Marble Arch

There are a handful of artists that craft these really beautiful soundscapes that are infused with energy and airy vocals; they build the sort of world we all want to live inside. Lately I can look at Peel Dream Magazine who might be looking at Stereolab…and now we’ve got Marble Arch. They’re doing something similar, even adding a bit of that ringing jangle guitar to the front of the mix before washing over it with synths and precision drum work. The vocals are submerged in the mix, faintly audible, utilized for both lyrical intent as well as an added instrument. The Parisian outfit are really something to be on the lookout for; keep your eyes out for Children of the Slump early next year via Geographie.

Spritely Pop from Pale Spectres

palespectresI’m a few weeks late on this tune, but it’s just too good not to share with you all. I first caught wind of Pale Spectres when they had a release on Cloudberry Records, who apparently will be releasing their new EP featuring this very song.  The Paris act have easily won me over with this tune; it’s got a quick jangling guitar line that rings true to indiepop form, all the while providing you with a bubbling bass groove that encourages delighted toe-tapping.  It seems like a simple formula, but only a few bands can pull of executing a sound like this.

Bright Pop from Fi/she/s

14966_340379512744791_1491863383_nOur site has expressed love for the work of Local Natives, and there’s an up-and-coming that comes from the same ilk, though that might not be quite fair to Fi/she/s.  They have a similar vocal structure to their tracks, and I can see how the percussion might have a bit of resemblance, but there’s some slight differences that I have really warmed up to.  For one, there’s a meandering guitar solo in the middle of the track, and one of the vocalists has a higher pitch, which gives the track a poppier feel.  Be sure to save yourself for the exuberant jam near the end, with electronic beats included. Loving this.

New Twee Garage Pop From Beat Marks

I’m not sure if anyone has ever used the term twee garage pop before so I plan on coining it as my own if it has yet to be claimed.  That’s the term I’m using to describe this relatively new Paris based outfit Beat Marks.  Their sound combines the twee elements of POBPAH with some of the indie garage bands like Yo la Tengo or even a touch of Sonic Youth.  Those comparisons may seem a bit bold, but I find the band might just be worthy.

You can check out a new 5 song EP by the band over on their bandcamp page coming your way from Soft Power Records.

Mumford & Sons On La Blogotheque

La Blogotheque had yet another one of their rousing live sessions posted recently with a new video from indie-folksters Mumford & Sons.  The 8 minute long video features the band playing two songs in a back alley in Paris.  The highlight for me is a captivating version of “Awake My Soul” with a French language variation on the chorus thrown in to please an onlooking French fan.  A pretty comical exchange between band leader Marcus Mumford and a Frenchman about proper translation/pronunciation at the beginning of the video is also worth your time.  The Frenchies strike again.
