Peel Dream Magazine Share Emotional Devotion Creator

It doesn’t seem like Peel Dream Magazine are going to slow down the machine anytime soon, crafting track after track that deserves your attention. It’s strange, but the delivery of the vocals on their latest single already feels super familiar, as if we’ve been listening to the band for years; it’s buried just beneath the wash of rhythmic guitar chords and keyboard droning. I’m just fascinated by their constant collage work; things seem muddy within the confines, but they’ve added the layers so delicately that each instrument seems to ring out individually; you can be captivated by any one note and ride it until the song’s end. Agitprop Alterna is dropping on April 3rd via Slumberland Records.

In listening to this new track from Peel Dream Magazine, I keep thinking how it almost feels like multiple songs being carefully placed atop one another, like some brilliant experiment in pop music. At times, you’re drawn to the buzzy guitar swell, especially upon pressing play at first. Then a vocal comes in, almost like a seance chant; it becomes clear that that serves more as another textured layer, with yet another vocal entering the foray as the focal point. To me, it’s brilliant on multiple levels, one being that it’s a success of a tune, let alone one that feels like 3 songs meshed into a single entity. This is a band everyone should be keeping an eye on going into the release of Agitprop Alterna; it’s out on April 3rd via Slumberland/Tough Love.

We continue our year-end list from people we love, one of whom is Joe of Wildhoney; he also shared that there’s a new band named Dummy in the works for 2020. Here’s a few words and a list from Joe! Joe: 2019 was a weird year for me and connecting new music, the things I really loved were mostly reissues, things from the past; newer releases were just not inspiring, and it was the first time I can remember this happening and it was, tbh unnerving. Luckily, towards end of the year some things start clicking and I felt inspired and excited again! So here’s some things I really connected with, 5 new releases, 5 reissues/comps and 5 eps/7″.

Cool Vibes from Peel Dream Magazine

You’ve heard of our adoration for Joe Stevens’ project, Peel Dream Magazine, so it might be our last chance to sample a track before the album drops at the beginning of October. I’m instantly drawn to the combination of Stevens’ voice and the warbling pulse of electronics just beneath the surface; it’s disorienting, yet captivating. We’re further drawn in when the guitar begins to playful dangle in our ears, loudly at first, then receding, only to come back to life as the song moves towards its end. No one’s making music quite as cathartic and entrancing as what you’ll find below; look for Modern Meta Physic from Slumberland on October 5th.

Slumberland Records Drop Another from Peel Dream Magazine

It’s Slumberland Records, and it’s Peel Dream Magazine, and it’s just really, ridiculously good. The track teases you with this keyboard wash, but listening closely you can hear the guitar work underneath. When the curtains get pulled back to reveal the vocals, the guitar becomes slightly more prominent, though not overbearing. Once you’ve combined that with the softness of the vocals, you get this beautiful landscape where you the sonic resemblance of The Clientele running down a hill to meet the stylings of Stereolab; they meet, embrace and we’re all better for it. Modern Meta Physic will be out on October 4th!

Slumberland Announces Peel Dream Magazine

Slumberland Records has been on a roll this year, having released the latest from Smokescreens and the album of the year candidate from Tony Molina…now they’ve got Peel Dream Magazine. The band is the project of NYC-based Joe Stevens; he’s constructing this dense pop world not currently available amongst the indie scene. Immediately there’s forward movement, the song pushes as a lightly distorted guitar chug cuts through a softer percussive realm. The chorus is more of a twinkling pulse to let everyone grab their breath; this is surely where a Stereolab reference is apt. The band will release Modern Meta Physic on October 4th.
