AllegrA Announces Yet Not Enough EP

AllegrA should already be on your radar, and if you haven’t listened then perhaps go spend some time on their bandcamp page, browsing everything you’ve been missing. There’s now news of the Yet, Not Enough EP, which will be released by Citrus City on March 12th. My favorite thing is how the track slowly builds; it opens softly, mostly working muted guitar riffs behind the vocals. The chords begin to expand from there, drums and keys join in, adding depth to the track that certainly elevates the band’s brand of basement pop. I’m really stuck on this song today, so if you’re looking for the feels, look no further.

SOLD Ready Brand New EP

Philadelphia’s SOLD might not be a household name at this point, but here’s to hoping you spend some time getting to know the group now…especially as they have a new EP on the horizon. The band’s musical diversity keeps the below single interesting, starting off with this bounding opening that definitely draws from the band’s indie rock influences. Different vocals in the song’s middle bring the track to life; I think one even has an almost folk-y drawl, which is contrasted by the song’s natural haunting; there might even be some Arcade Fire yelps too! Then the guitars cascade down in an angular fashion, like pelting rains, matched by similarly fashioned vocal lines. Feels Unreal comes out today courtesy of Hits Direct Records.

New Single & Video From Restorations

As you likely know, I’m a bit of a nostalgia geek when it comes to music, and I’ve loved the reemergence of several of my favorite old genres. Today my homies in Philly based band Restorations are furthering my foray into older sounds with this jam “The Red Door”. The song has a sort of old school emo vibe to it from the early years of the genre akin to bands like Sunny Day or The Cast. Those sounds combined with the gritty, angry vocals of lead singer Jon Loudon makes for a new experience in a somewhat old school genre.

Restorations will release LP5000 on September 8th via Tiny Engines.

New Honey Radar Tune

Honey Radar first bounced onto our radar when the Philly act released their second LP via What’s Your Rupture. Today, they’ve announced a brand new EP is on the way via Chunklet Industries; it’s titled Psychic Cruise. Immediately you’re going to toss out that psychedelic vibe, but the song’s brevity and casual demeanor make it a far cry from that far out land. Sure, I can hear some of the guitars giving you the impression, but just the smooth delivery of the lyrics gives the song a whole lot more polish and assuredness. Jamming can be cool, but it’s only as cool as the song will take it…and this tune takes it pretty far in under a minute and a half; look for the EP on April 20th.

Check Out No Thank You

Philadelphia’s own, No Thank You, will be releasing a new album called All it Takes to Ruin it All on April 6th and they have some new music to share in preparation for the LP. This new one is entitled “Dash” and features a nice play on slow build ups rising into ferocious and well timed choruses. The band could best be likened to a fellow female fronted band like Rainer Maria if they had a bit more bite and edge to their sound.

Pre-order the new album now via Lame-O Records.

Love This New Track From Friendship

It’s hump day and it’s time for something a little bit different. Today that comes by way of this new single “Skip to the Good Part” from Philadelphia based outfit Friendship. Something about the way leading man Dan Wiggins spouts off incredible line after incredible line over a meandering bit of beautifully composed music has really spoken to me this morning. No comparisons, it’s just a damn good song.

Friendship will release Shock Out of Season on November 3rd via Ordinal Records.

You Should Listen to Caracara

After checking some things on the interwebs, I found this nice new tune called “Revelatory” from Philadelphia based group Caracara. To me, the song begins as a sort of slacker rock, grunge type of tune but then slowly builds into a huge, guitar smashing finish. So while many of you may not know the band, I suggest you check out their impressive new single below. A full album of material is coming later this year.

Loving This New Cayetana Track

I’ve been jamming this new song called “Certain For Miles” from Philly based Cayetana all morning and felt the need to share it with you now. I love the feeling of total raw and unabashed emotion you feel as vocalist and songwriter Augusta Koch belts her heart out with the faint hint of cracking under the weight of her feelings. The build up towards the climax, and the final delivery halfway through, is truly something to make you feel all the feels. A lovely track.

Cayetana will release New Kind of Normal on May 5th via Plum Records.

Hear a New Track from Pet Milk

Well, it’s only a rough mix, says Pet Milk‘s bandcamp. But dammit if it isn’t a good one. I really love the guitar sound on this version, with the perfect bit of vocals seductively drawing you into the song’s pop realms. You’ll likely pick up on a slight bounce too, building into a slight jam, wrapped up tightly by a return to the pleasant verses the band offers. It’s interesting to hear a band in the early stages of songwriting, as I definitely hear some spots where I’d turn up the noise, but it’s equally as good to hear the bare bone version wondering where the band will go. Time will tell, or so the cliche goes.

Are You Excited for Mannequin Pussy?

mannequinMan…I’m stoked on this upcoming release from Mannequin Pussy; it’s only a few weeks away from making its way out into the world. As of now, we don’t have too many of the songs to consume, but I’m in love with the title track from Romantic. A quick blast opens it up, then moves into a really fragile, almost dream pop realm; it’s like a great lounge act with really good musical tastes. Of course, the band are eager to blast forth with some noise, as they do during the chorus, exploding with a wall of noise and a vocal scream that sets listeners on edge. Look for the record to be released on October 28th.
