Jangling Pop from Gentle Brent

You might know Brent Randall from his work as Pinecones, but he’s changing the moniker to Gentle Brent, offering up a brand new album titled Just Dandy. This song’s opening guitar will wrap around you from the get-go, just as the vocals playfully bounce their way into the number. The vocals clearly have the focus, almost giving off a dose of swing in the way they move back and forth with stretched melodies. It’s a short spurt of pop music, dripping with sugar for your ears; it’s available now via Jigsaw Records.

Another Great Track from Pinecones

pineyNicole picked up on the boys from Pinecones late last year, and I’m jumping on that bandwagon this week. The Athens/Atlanta based group definitely have some similarities to some other proto-punk bands of the moment, though they seem to have a bit more ferocity behind their personal brand.  This song in particular constantly feels like it’s a runaway train, almost falling off the tracks, only to come to a nice little resting respite before blasting off towards the end.  Look for their debut LP on Arrowhawk Records this April.

Dark Jam From Pinecones

pinesPinecones are a band that have been in the works for several years, but crafted their first album, Sings For You Now, as a group earlier this year in April. The group combines previous experience with grindcore and punk influence, but before you nail them down to these two set genres, have a listen to what they’ve got for you in “Sleep is Forget,” below. The band is based off of the writings of Henry David Thoreau and Walt Whitman, so really, what more can you want? Jam with the band below and pick up their album over at the band’s Bandcamp page or from Arrowhawk Records.
