If your one of the seven people that hit up our site regularly (thanks mom!), then you might notice a title change. Nothing big, but just dropped a word because I was tired of pretending to be too clever. I’m not. Alas, we are still out here covering as much music as we have time for, and still trying to figure out how to incorporate the TMZ style drama that makes the cool sites so popular. So, for me, last week had some highlights I was pretty stoked upon; I got to hear solid returns from Lust for Youth and Jackie Mendoza, not to mention another brilliant electropop goodie from Das Kope. We got the announcement of new Julian Never, Galore and Blue Lawyer LPs, which should make everyone in the Bay Area proud. Plus there’s a great show preview/review from J.Wags on Golden Dawn Arkestra, so be sure to check out his work!

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve run our weekly recap, but last week we covered a ton of ground, so why not give you a chance to see what all we were digging on our end? It was good to see Trouble in Mind with a couple of new releases we’re likely to enjoy from Martin Frawley and Connections. We also got to meet new supergroup from Melbourne, Equal Parts and their debut single. Plus, we even got to dip our toes in the Austin waters, with a new Daily Worker tune and a live recording from Balmorhea. Browse below, see what you’re into…likely all of it?

It’s that time of year when songs begin to dry up for some reason, as we’re all just expected to put our lives on hold to gather some lists for you to browse. Still, we managed to get some new tunes out your way, hoping to keep your eyes on the prize. I loved the new Spice World tune, and was fortunate to be able to run a video premiere for the latest from Shaki Tavi. We’ll likely still have a handful of tunes for you this week, but will likely take a little break ourselves to kick it with our families.

ATH Vinyl Mix – November 22

A few weeks ago, I dropped a new idea we’ve been playing around with where we create a mix, or playlist if you will, of tunes sourced directly from our very own vinyl record collection. Since the year is winding down and the new tunes are starting to slow down a bit, this seemed like the right time to go ahead and drop the mix for November. Stream it below and don’t forget we have a couple more mixes on our new ATH Vinyl Mixes page. Though it’s called “Friday Night Move Makers,” you can surely take this with you anytime you need a fresh mix at work, at home, or at the bar. Ya dig.

Looks like folks are finally waking up to the fact that the year doesn’t have to end just because people toss up some arbitrary judgment list; there were so many rad tunes dropping last week that we didn’t even have time to get them all up. RayRay ran some premieres for Tearing Up and Sunfruits, while I was super ecstatic to get a new Roller Derby tune. We also got to run a really great Rock n’ Recipes with Heather Trost just before her album dropped. Plus, Austin was repping, with a brilliant new tune from Half Dream, and Zero Percent APR dropping their new LP. Give it all a listen and let us know which is your fave!

Strangely, I thought we covered a lot of territory last week, especially as I ran too much goodness on Friday. But, apparently we had a measly 14 songs run, plus some Levitation wrap-ups and a show-preview or two in the pages. I was excited to hear new music from both Seazoo and En Attendant Ana, both who’ve been quiet for a bit. Plus, that Field School and Heather Trost dropping Friday pretty much made the week a whole pile of awesomeness, in my book anyways. Visit if you will.

ATH Vinyl Mixes

As many of you know, the ATH team is made up of a few dudes who are absolutely obsessive about collecting records. Seriously, pretty much all we do during the day is waste time (between posting tunes of course) chatting online about what’s currently on our want lists or what we found while digging around town. Heck, I’ve even started selling, Nathan puts out records, and we’ve all been spinning our tunes around town as much as possible.

We’ve tossed around some ideas about how to bring our love of collecting to the pages of ATH, and one idea that stuck was to create some playlists from our various collections. I recently played around with this at home and we’re making a couple of those streams available now on our new ATH Vinyl Mixes page, coming via hosting service MixCloud. These are still pretty rough as we figure out the best system for recording, but we’d love for you to check them out and offer any feedback. Our very first mix is below with another more hip-hop oriented set over on our new Mixes page. All songs are recorded using records from our own collection with zero editing, streaming or digital music. Keep physical media alive y’all.

We’ve got more ideas brewing so stay tuned and happy digging.

It’s strange. Last week, I was complaining that the tunes were drying up as its nearing the end of the year. And here we are, RayRay and I getting a solid 20 songs up, plus interviews and coverage of Levitation. Guess we crushed it, along with our friend JWagner, who gave us some solid Babe Rainbow coverage. Personally, of all the tracks I loved last week, that Heather Trost tune is just a flat out star; I need ya’ll to get behind me on this! Our Aussie friends in Deuce also dropped us a new ditty, plus we got a new Tubs announcement out there. Tune in and let us know what you’re loving.

There were a lot of great songs coming our way last week, as well as a lot of great album to spend time with when you got to Friday. We tried to make sure we got your ears on as much as we could, so hopefully you can revisit those posts from last week to grab a little bit of joy from those tunes. If not, then you can certainly stream all the tracks we had in this fun little weekly wrap-up. We had new stuff from Hot Tubs Time Machine, Shake Chain and Ribbon Stage; we then made mention of Reds Pinks and Purples, Winter, Chorusgirl and more in our album streams. Lots of coverage running around last week, and with ACL in town, there was some coverage of shows and what not. We ended the week throwing up some streams of our favorite LPs that dropped too. But, ultimately, you came here for the tunes, and we had lots of them. Personally, I loved new stuff from I Was a King, Heather Trost and Field School, not to mention the little twist in expectations thrown in by the latest from Smashing Times.
