As I mentioned back in February, Calvin Love has a new album on the way and today the full deets are available. Mr. Love’s new album is called Super Future and is due out on June 16th via Arts & Crafts. To celebrate the announcement, an awesome new single entitled “Automation” is also up for your listening pleasure. I’m loving the pop stylings going on here with a slick bass line to give us a special, almost R&B themed tune.

Digging This New Mates of State

Man I’ve really lost touch with Mates of State over the years. Well, maybe not just lost touch so much as not being a huge fan of their material from the last few years. Fair enough? Today I’m excited to be posting about the band for the first time in almost 6 years(yes I had to search that) with this sweet little track “Beautiful Kids”. For me, it’s a return to old form. Combined with a darker pop beat are those all too familiar perfectly synced vocals and lyrics sure to make even the toughest guy swoon just a little bit. Well done.

Mates have a new EP entitled You’re Going to Make It due out June 16th on Barsuk Records.

It seems like Friday night is yet another one of those nights in Austin with tons of live music options to fit just about anyone’s musical tastes. Lankford and I may be checking out Hamilton down at the Parish or hopping over to see Sungod at Red 7. For those looking to see a promising out of town act on the cheap, head over to Empire for a show by DC based Pree. You should definitely check out my SXSW interview with the band while you’re at it. Locals fill out the lineup with Silver Ships kicking things off and Auroravore playing right before the headliners.

Enjoy This Little Racer Tune

Sometimes songs can be really hard to resist, and this little jam “Jack Knife” from Little Racer is one of those songs I’m finding irresistible today. When we get right down to it, I doubt many folks would disagree with me when I say this track is so easy to like and full of every bit of all the great things about pop music. I dare you to play it only once.

Darker Pop From Cultfever

I’ve been rather enjoying this new tune “Youth” by Brooklyn based group Cultfever. It’s a nice bit of pop music with synth heavy beats, and a dash of darkness to provide some mystery and intrigue to the song. For now, you can stream the tune for free on soundcloud, but you can purchase it on June 2nd via all major digital outlets. Happy Monday.

Fist City Give Us Another Hit

Fist City has been pumping out some nice and fun hits recently and today we’re being treated to yet another. This one’s called “Hey Little Sister” and features a fast paced, catchy as hell pop sound. I’m thinking you’ll be hearing more from them real soon.

More From Little Children

We already introduced you to Stockholm based group Little Children last month and today we have even more new music to share. New single “We’re Falling” is a genuine, easy going pop number for anyone needing some bright sounds and happiness in their day. It maybe doesn’t have the rougher edges like many of the bands we typically promote, but I’m finding it catchy and uplifting regardless. I’m sure you’ll find something to like as well.

PINES Bring Us An Electro Jam

I am rarely one to be posting a lot of music in the electro-pop genre, but sometimes you just get one of those jams that hits a nerve. Today I’m stepping outside my comfort zone with musical tastes and proclaiming “All You Need” by up and coming Aussie act PINES as my hit of the day. It’s simplicity makes it an elegant, beautiful and head nodding worthy song all at the same time. I challenge you to hit play and not immediately play it again right afterward. I’ve had it on loop all morning…

Just getting started up, I have very little information on the new group so stay tuned and say hi to them on facebook.

Nice Bit of Pop From Hey Anna

Brooklyn based pop artist Hey Anna is a band that most of us probably know very little about though I think you’ll be hearing more about them in the very near future. The group caught my ear yesterday with this promising and delightful new tune “Island”. Pop sensibilities are going crazy in this track with mesmerizing harmonies from the sister trio who make up the band’s core. Let’s not forget the guys in the band either as they provide a backing rhythm to drive it all home.

Hey Anna will be dropping their debut LP Run Koko later this summer. Stay tuned for more deets as we get them.

Beauty From Wilsen

Wilsen is a relatively new band from New York city fronted and creatively run by the lovely Tamsin Wilsen. As a new debut LP is coming soon, Tamsin and her band are sharing a preview of their material with this beautiful track “Garden”. One can find elements of Feist in the song combined with some backing beats that drop at all the perfect moments. A truly great introduction to this young artist.
