Fun Bit Of Pop From BUNNI

BUNNI is a lo-fi rock/pop band brought to you by the Berlin based musician Bunyamin Eroglu. He has been working hard recently to put together a 10 song album full of quirky bits of pop music infused with equal parts MGMT style synth beats and the intimate songwriting approach of Girls. A sampling of his style can be found below in the form of new single “Taste for Life”. It’s a fun and breezy song which blends those lo-fi elements beautifully with a catchy as hell beat. You’re sure to love it.

The Legends Share Tan Cologne

Tan Cologne should definitely be a band on your radar, especially after the release of their debut Cave Vaults on the Moon in New Mexico. Now they’ve teamed up with Johan Angergard and his project, The Legends, to release this light-hearted ditty. It’s the complete opposite end of the spectrum of what you’d expect, considering it involves the US duo, but it’s so so great. My only complaint being that the tune’s just short…and not because it’s short but because I could have it all on repeat all day long. Maybe you’ll feel the same after a couple of short spins.

Say Hi To Yune

Isn’t it exciting when you find a new band that just draws you in immediately and yearns for repeated plays? For me, it’s one of my favorite feelings and I’m always happy to share it with all of you. Today my “new band smell” comes by way of Danish group Yune, and their brand new single “Odd One Out”. This one blends some lovely bits of bedroom pop with some darker, heavier bass elements to create a truly mesmerizing single.

This song appears on the Yune debut album AGOG which is due out April 24th.

The Oilies Share Latest Tune

I’m not typically one to revel in the joys of demos and remixes and all that. But, I really really love the Oilies, and I really really really love this new track…even in a demo version. There’s something in its simplicity that’s supremely rewarding; it almost feels like the song is just on repeat for much of the track…careful ears will hear slight changes. Vocals subtly change the presentation, but if you’re like me, you might have been so entranced you didn’t notice on the first run though…so go back and listen to this all again. Honestly, I just want to hang out in a world where this track is on repeat forever.

Stream Boy Romeo’s New LP, Pure Soul

I’ve spent the last week or so really digging deep into Pure Soul, the newest LP from John Steiner’s recording project as Boy Romeo. Every time I press play, I can’t help but wonder how some folks get big and famous, while others toil in obscurity. For me, this whole LP is a brilliant collection of pop songs; it should be a huge record, even as indie standards go. You can just take the singles to start. “Let’s Roll” has this surf-y swagger filled with hints of doo-wop and vocal layering that would make Brian Wilson smile. “Sophie” brings in a high-stepping jangle, meant to kick your heels up and have some fun, even with a sly hint at 80s club dance floors. But, a great LP needs a ballad, which you get in “Daydream” as the album draws near a close. That doesn’t even cover a song like “Pastels,” which could draw Steiner some Dent May comparisons, but here we have him going all in with a big horn solo added to the mix. Oh, and you need an art-y song too? Well, there’s “Waiting for My Call,” which stretches a solid pop number into a synth exploration. This LP has it all, and you can have it all too if you grab a copy from Z Tapes tomorrow when the album drops! Here it all below!

Bleach Day Share In Limbo Single

I love a good pop tune, even more so when it comes across in this sort of warped manner, such as the latest single from Bleach Day. The duo received a lot of praise for Where to Dream, and most recently helped with production duties on Wished Bone’s latest LP. Here, we have them building what seems like a very straight-forward pop number; the song’s general structure rides the backbone of piano notes. But, the vocals have this effect that holds the pop sensibility while still sounding obscured, then they bury it behind layer upon layer of textures. It’s like a pop quilt, little notes sewn into the fabric of other notes here and there. This should make the new album, As if Always, quite an adventure; it drops the first week of March.

European Sun Share the Future’s Female

Man, WIAIWYA is on an incredible roll these last few weeks; they just announced new Jeanines last week, and now we have European Sun. The band is comprised of Steve Miles and a bunch of friends, including the likes of Amelia Fletcher (Catenary Wires, Heavenly, etc) and Sarah Corrie (Velocette, Comet Gain). Unfortunately, the story behind the song’s first verse is a bit distressing, which Miles says he thought of while thinking upon his mother’s childhood; the message gets hidden beneath playfulness and dry humor, but the sentiment remains. For this reason, the John at WIAIWYA is sending folks to donate to Refuge, a center helping women and children fleeing domestic violence. Dropkick Share Another Single Off the Scenic Route

Let me just say this…if you’re writing guitar pop music at this very instant, please make it sound like Dropkick. The Scottish outfit have been around for a bit, but the forthcoming album, The Scenic Route, just seems to get better with each single used for promotion. Listening below, you’ll hear that ringing semi-jangle, encouraging a slight toe tap and head bob; it’s subtle, as are the band’s many charms. Sure, the vocals could be described as warm or gentle, but I think of them more as pleasant…something I’d sit and listen to with my mom on her back porch. It’s short, it’s catchy and makes you feel good about the world (for once), so be sure to pick it up from Bobo Integral; it drops on February 7th.

Remington Super 60 Share I Don’t Wanna Wait

Looks like we’re spending a lot of time up in the Scandinavian part of the world today, which popped up earlier, and now brings us Remington Super 60. We’ve covered the band before, showing our appreciation for their beautiful pop sound. Here they return with this subtle, almost lounge-ready, gem; the pacing definitely lends itself to a moment of early morning reflection. Nice gentle bubble of bass beneath the feathery vocals; this is the sort of number that’s going to make your day infinitely better just be soaking in its natural warmth. The band release their aptly titled, New EP, today, so if you enjoy, go hear the rest.

Another Pop Ditty from Pet Shimmers

Bristol outfit Pet Shimmers are crafting some sort of new-age pop fuckstorm; they’re taking the standard format and warping and twisting it around the backbone established by lead maestro, Oliver Wilde. Their sounds definitely are reminiscent of the sort of mish-mash of folk and bedroom pop; it sounds like the madness inside the caverns of one’s mind, but it’s being crafted and developed by a seven-piece pop outfit. I’ve been really impressed with their debut LP Face Down in Meta, and I think it’s going to sneak onto some people’s radars once they complete their tour with Sandy (Alex G); the album drops next Friday!
