Fresh Music from Astrid Swan

astridIt’s been a trying journey the last few years for Astrid Swan, battling cancer just after her last release. As one would expect, the music she’s crafting now is reflective of that experience…looking back on the trials, the dreams and the hopes for what comes next. You’ll hear that in this new tune, our first listen to the work she’s put into her new album. Musically, there’s a pulse, allowing her voice to filter in carefully atop, offering respite for her, and for listeners, with her lyrics. The album is not completed as of yet, but expect to hear it some time in 2017.

Premiere: New Album from Dreamboat + Release Show

dreamboaAustin’s Dreamboat have been kicking out pop tunes around the city for the last few years, and they’re set to release their new album, Loose Tooth, tomorrow. When listening through these new tracks, I think my favorite bit is the strength of the diversity within the collection. Mary Bryce has this huge bold voice, buton “Neighborhood Bar” she gets to play the balancing harmony; it doesn’t hurt that this tune also sounds like a campfire celebration. Of course, the sultry pop hit of “Spent the Day Lying in Bed” is a great place to spend some repeated plays; you’ll definitely love the way the guitar chords dance around. Personally, “New England” is my personal jam, but I’ll let you press play on the stream below to find your favorite.

The band celebrate the release of Loose Tooth tomorrow at band member Jake’s house. Message them for details!

Pop Number from Hollow Everdaze

holloweverdazeThought I knew all the hot bands hanging out in Australia, but Hollow Everdaze is a new one to me. I was taken by the vocals at first…they fall into that range that really pulls on my emotions. But, the string arrangements that are used to fill in the space have absolutely helped elevate this track; it creates a level of familiarity that’s led me into a state of adoration. This gem of a tune is set to appear on the band’s debut album, which is slated for release in early 2017; I’ll let you know as I get more.

Stream the New Freshcard Album

freshcardI’ve really been looking forward to the release of the new Freshcard LP, Sunday Night, especially after playing the album’s opening track a million or so times (that’s not hyperbole!). The entire listen if filled with carefully crafted pop tunes…some seem like traditional indiepop fare while others have shades of lounge pop. I feel like you’re probably getting inundated with tons of new music this week, so I wanted to offer you something casually refreshing. If you’re just looking to sample, I suggest “Friends,” “Party” and “Find a Way.”

Pop Psych from Battlehooch

battlehoochWhat do you get when you take psych and blend it with elements of late 90s indie rock? I think your answer is here with Battlehooch and the band’s new single. It’s like this weird blend of Grandaddy and Muse (maybe even Rooney) mashed up together, then drizzled with a little dosage of psychedelic heritage via harmonicaflourishes here and there. It might possibly be the most accessible psychedelic-tinted track. File this track as another feature in the band’s growing repertoire of well-crafted hits for their clamoring fans.

Premiere: New Suntrodden Single

suntroddenAs you’ve seen, I’ve been all about Suntrodden leading up to the release of his release, which is a month away! While you’ve heard touches of indiepop, this new single shows of Erik Stephansson to build this huge pop sensibility in really simple ways, utilizing the strength of his voice and careful guitar playing. At this point, I don’t think I can find a thing he’s done wrong at this point…this is a pop songwriter with the gift. Look to get your hands on Suntrodden II on October 28th.

One More Few Bits Tune For You

fewbitsFew Bits will be releasing their sophomore album Big Sparks on Friday, so why not celebrate that release by offering you another single. Here, Karolien’s voice is the winner, offering a great vocal performance while the band, for the most part, works quietly behind her…accenting with the emphatic note here and there. What’s special? Well, I think the chorus is quite stunning, punching up the melody in exactly the right spot; it’s an infectious moment that has you holding out for more. PIAS is releasing the record Friday, so pop fans, you’ve been warned. I mean, come on…the chorus!

Bright Pop From ADOY

13754468_1061697427250200_1566118883685813389_nWell I officially have a new favorite band from South Korea! I’m not sure how much competition they have exactly, but trust me when I say this new single from Seoul based ADOY is a jam. It’s called “Don’t Stop Me” and features some nice bits of bright pop and head nod inducing beats. How is this band not blowing it up right now stateside? Seriously. Stay tuned for more information on ADOY as they work on a debut album.

More Pop from Croque Madame

croquemadameIn case you haven’t caught on, Emotional Response is one of my favorite labels at the moment…they just continue to put out great pop music left and right. They helped with a compilation that includedCroque Madame, which apparently served as a warning about the label’s intention to put out the group’s self-titled debut. This new tune has this bouncy bit of pop built on piano/keyboard; combine that with the playful kindness off the French voice and you’ve got another hit on your hands. Short, sweet and lovely, so look to grab a copy from the label when it’s released on white vinyl next Friday!

ATX Spotlight: New Video & Album From Attic Ted

12798958_186031541774470_236675713616566310_nFor some crazy reason ATH has never posted about local Austin wierdo pop band Attic Ted. Well today that changes for the better as we share with you this awesome new video from the band and a link to their new album. The video, appearing on new album Parade Dust Mischief, is called “Next Time” and brings to mind this strange image of The Flaming Lips doing punk rock at the circus. That sounds like a good time to me. Have a listen, watch the video, and check out their new album in full via the link below.

Parade Dust Mischief is available in full over on the Attic Ted bandcamp page.
